Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa has made Travel & Leisure’s World’s Best List for 2010. It is the second year in a row that the five star resort has been named as one of Asia’s top fifteen resorts.

The five-star Anantara Golden Triangle Resort and Spa, located close to the historic town of Chiang Saen in the heart of northern Thailand’s hill-tribe country where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand converge, was voted in at number twelve on the list. It is the second consecutive year the resort has made onto the World’s Best list.

A questionnaire developed by the editors of Travel + Leisure, in association with ROI Research Inc., was made available to Travel + Leisure readers at TLWorldsBest.com from December 15, 2009, to March 31, 2010. Readers were invited to participate through Travel + Leisure magazine (January, February, and March issues), and online at TravelandLeisure.com.

“This really is a triumph for not only the resort itself but for Thailand in general,” said Bodo Klingenberg, General Manager, Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa. “It really shows that people still have faith in Thai tourism and as this is the second year running that Anantara Golden Triangle has been featured in the list I’m pleased that we can give a true Thai experience that has maintained its popularity to tourists worldwide”

The resort boasts 77 luxurious rooms set in 160 acres of indigenous forest and landscaped gardens. Guest facilities include an infinity-edge swimming pool set into the hillside behind the resort to capture the views over the Mekong valley below.

An undisputed highlight of the resort would have to be a visit to the elephant camp. Set within the resort’s lush bamboo forest, the camp is home to thirty two elephants. The animals are cared for by their local mahouts (drivers) and English-born resident Director of Elephants, John Roberts who is also a qualified mahout himself. Guests are also offered the rare opportunity to learn to ‘drive’ an elephant by choosing to undertake a unique three-day mahout training course.

“It gives me great pleasure to know that our guests have stayed here and have left with an unbelievable Anantara experience. They are the ones who have voted for us and that’s what makes it all the more special to make it onto this list,” Mr. Klingenberg concluded.

Anantara Resort Golden Triangle is located 60km north of Chiang Rai’s international airport. For enquiries and reservations, please call + 66 (0) 5378 4084 or + 66 (0) 2 477 0760 or email infogt@anantara.com. For more information, visit www.anantara.com.
