Sofitel Luxury Hotels has appointed Nicholas Mina to the role of Director for Sales & Marketing at its Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa property located on Denarau Island.

Nicholas was promoted to his new position after two years as the resort’s Director of Conferences & Incentives and will relocate from Sydney to Fiji for the role. In his new expanded position, he will continue to oversee the resort’s C&I activity and in addition overlook all other segments including the wholesale and leisure markets.

Nicholas originally joined Sofitel Luxury Hotels in 2008 from CI Events where he was Business Manager, armed with strong experience in hotel business development. Previously he was with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for 12 years, and the Intercontinental hotel in Sydney where he focussed on the corporate market segment.

Nicholas takes over the reins from former Director of Sales & Marketing for the Sofitel in Fiji, Heather Gordon.

He predicts that 2011 will be the ‘year of the conference’ in Fiji. “Bula is big business yet again,” said Nicholas. “The leisure market is peaking, and all signs point towards the corporate and conferencing markets following suit which indicates that we’re on track for a very promising 2011.”

“In particular we’re witnessing a high calibre of enquiry for mid to large scale events from industry professionals in both Australia and New Zealand. Overall, the market has definitely picked up with more and more quotes coming through for Fiji from a conference, events and incentives perspective.”

With a prime address on Denarau Island just 20 minutes drive from the Nadi International airport, Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa is a modern, integrated destination unfolding across 26-acres of lush garden paradise with views extending across Nadi Bay. Sofitel’s signature style emanates throughout, with classic furnishings and Fijian customs infused in every aspect of resort life, from its award winning restaurants including Salt and V Restaurant through to its charismatic and cultural Turtle Club for kids.

In addition to offering Fiji’s favourite lagoon style pool, an onsite day spa, activities centre and wedding chapel, every one of Sofitel’s 296 beach-facing rooms and suites feature either a balcony or terrace for a great outlook that sets the scene for relaxation. Family rooms are available for those travelling with children, and two decadent presidential suites await those who wish to have the most indulgent of experiences while visiting Fiji.
