IHG’s Second Hotel in the Country

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), (LON:IHG) (NYSE:IHG) (ADRs), the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms, and Latin America’s most experienced international hotel company, today announced the future 122-room Holiday Inn Guayaquil-Airport in Ecuador has broken ground. The seven-story hotel will be located adjacent and within walking distance to the Guayaquil International Airport and is scheduled to open in 2012.

The Holiday Inn Guayaquil-Airport is part of a 20-year franchise agreement with BPO Asesores Empresariales S.A. and is the second IHG hotel to be located in Ecuador, the first being the Holiday Inn Express Quito. The hotel’s convenient location next to the city’s main airport and key commercial and banking districts of the Kennedy Norte neighborhood make it ideal for business travelers. The Mall del Sol is also located nearby.

"We are extremely pleased to establish a presence in Guayaquil, the most populous city in Ecuador and an important business hub," said Jim Anhut, Chief Development Officer, IHG, Americas. "Guayaquil's modern, international airport is a great location for a Holiday Inn, and complements our existing Holiday Inn Express in Quito."

Guayaquil boasts a total population exceeding 3.3 million and is situated on the western bank of the Guayas River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Guayaquil. The city is Ecuador’s main economic hub with a regional influence in commercial, financial and cultural activities.

“We are proud to break ground in Ecuador’s largest city, further demonstrating our commitment to grow our portfolio in all the key markets across the region,” said Alvaro Diago, COO, IHG, Latin America and Caribbean. “Guayaquil is a well-traveled market for business as it is an important center for Ecuador's manufacturing and commercial industries. We are also excited about our flourishing relationship with BPO Asesores Empresariales S.A.”

The Holiday Inn Guayaquil-Airport will boast a contemporary, innovative design that provides accessible comfort and sets new standards for business travelers and families alike. It also will include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, lobby bar, restaurant and three meeting rooms.

“The Holiday Inn brand attracts the precise demographic we are seeking for the hotel in Guayaquil,” said Juan Carlos Santos of BPO Asesores Empresariales S.A. “Since the city is the country’s main business hub, the Holiday Inn brand, known for its dependability, comfort and value, is a perfect addition to the area.”

Once constructed, the new hotel will showcase elements of the completed $1 billion Holiday Inn global brand relaunch, the biggest ever project of its kind in the history of the hospitality industry. The relaunch includes a renewed focus on quality, improved arrival and welcome features, enhanced bedding and showers, a "Stay Real" service culture and a new, up-to-date look, including the redesigned logo and signage.

The Holiday Inn Guayaquil-Airport will include business-focused amenities like an ergonomic work station, data ports, complimentary high-speed Internet access in guest rooms, WiFi capabilities, which will allow guests to conduct conference calls for up to six participants even while using their computer online. In addition, each room will have the standard Holiday Inn guestroom accommodations – comfortable double, queen or king-sized beds, a sitting area with a lounge chair, cable television, hairdryer, coffee maker, iron and ironing board. Bathrooms will include a specially designed showerhead that offers superior pressure, as well as a signature shower curtain with curved rod and new amenities.
