BEL OMBRE, MAURITIUS -- Rouben’s Wine Room at the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort is now offering super-premium Penfolds wine by the glass, the only outlet in Mauritius to do so. The innovation has been made possible by the introduction to Rouben’s of an Enomatic Enoline Elite 2.5 storing and cooling system that allows wine to be served by the glass without any loss of aroma or freshness.
It means that high-end premium Penfolds such as Grange Hermitage or Yattarna can now be sampled in glass-sized measures at reasonable prices.
“In partnership with Penfolds, Rouben’s Wine Room is the only venue in Mauritius where iconic wines such as Grange Hermitage or Yattarna can be tried by the glass,” said Mr Jean-Pierre Francisque, Director of Food & Beverage at the Outrigger.
“At any time of the year tourists and Mauritius residents seeking legendary Australian wines such as Penfolds, will have affordable access to truly wonderful wines – by the glass.”
For example, Penfolds Grange 2005 by the 135ml glass is MUR 6,299/US$183 (compared to MUR 35,000/US$1017 for one bottle). The Yattarna Chardonnay 2013 is MUR 3,105/US$90 by the glass (MUR 17,250/US$501 per bottle).
Grange is arguably Australia's most famous wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Grange boasts an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951 and clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia.
“The Grange style is the original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy,” said Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker. “The result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world's great wines.”
The Yattarna, a Chardonnay from the Coal and Derwent Valleys in Tasmania and the Adelaide Hills offers, “layers of flavour, structurally profound, complex… built to age,” said Gago. The name Yattarna means “little by little, gradually” in Aboriginal language. It’s a Chardonnay that, given time in the glass, transforms with air and offers “very impressive length, depth and weight with nuances of lightly roasted almond nuts and subtle hints of citrus.”
The Enoline cooling system is fully endorsed by Penfolds which wants its elite wines to reach a wider audience in Mauritius.
