While many likely reached for crystal flutes to enjoy a champagne toast to 2018, those who have experienced Four Seasons Resort Maui Resort Manager Martin Dell’s Glassology class may have opted for a different shaped glass, perhaps one with a wider bowl to let the aromas shine and the bubbles soften.

This is the type of knowledge gleaned in the unique experience, available to meeting and incentive groups year-round as well as to leisure guests at select times throughout the year.

During the hands-on experience, Dell reveals his expertise on wine glass shapes and their effects on taste, as attendees work with five glasses of different shapes. Dell discusses the wines being sampled and the elements of each glass — giving attendees the opportunity to experience the difference in how the wine smells and tastes depending on the glass selected.

At the end of the class, guests will have learned the fundamentals and will be set to impress their own guests, capable of answering such questions as Does the shape of a wine glass really matter? Or more specifically, Why do you drink a sauvignon blanc out of a different glass than a chardonnay?

A certified sommelier and glass connoisseur, Dell believes that the glasses selected for each wine being served can have a tremendous impact on how the wines taste. He became fascinated with this study as he practiced his trade in food and beverage positions at luxury resorts all over the world, from Hong Kong to Sydney and Czech Republic. Now in Maui, Dell oversees operations at the legendary Four Seasons Resort Maui as Resort Manager.

This epicurean experience is just another of the many surprises offered by the expert staff at this world-renowned property, the island’s only resort to hold both the Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond distinctions. Other experiences available for meeting and incentive guests that are led by the Resort’s talented food and beverage team include the “Poke Pop-Up” party, where guests sample the popular food trend (poke) sweeping the nation alongside local hand-crafted beer, and “Sushi 101,” where chefs share authentic Japanese techniques with guests during a sushi-making and sake-tasting class. These are just two more of the intriguing experiences the talented culinary team can deliver.

Ultimate luxury experience will end on 2018-12-31
