Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo bars and restaurants are also offering Sakura-themed drinks and dishes for a limited period.

The Spa’s popular Totally Tokyo “Five” Journeys from Nihonbashi treatment, which is available year-round, uses the five classic Japanese ingredients of pine, plum, bamboo, green tea and rice bran to stimulate the five senses. For a limited period during the Sakura season, the spa’s therapists will use cherry blossom in place of some of the ingredients.

For this Sakura Edition of the treatment, guests will be welcomed with Sakura scent instead of green tea fragrance when entering the treatment room, to promote a feeling of happiness and quieten busy minds. A Sakura salt scrub will also be used to soften and cleanse feet during the foot ritual, in place of plum salt foot scrub.

During the treatment a rice bran heat pack is used to relax muscles, while guests are treated to a soothing head and full body shiatsu-style massage and stretching. To complete the treatment, Sakura green tea and Sakura ice cream will be served. The Sakura Edition treatment is priced at YEN41,000 plus tax and service charge.

On 16 April, The Spa will also launch an exclusive fully immersive sound and light healing experience, Sensory Blossom, which will be available year-round. Using musical vibrations, plus various shades of soothing colour in-room to complement the tonal sounds, serves to “remind” the body and brain of its natural state of harmony and balance. This, combined with rhythmic massage and the use of crystals to synchronize the chakras, helps to restore a sense of mental, emotional and physical well-being.

Available at The Spa’s Tranquility Suite, with sweeping views across Tokyo, the Sensory Blossom treatment is priced at YEN43,000 plus taxes.

The Spa’s boutique is offering cherry blossom-coloured heat packs made with rice bran, this spring. The packs can be used hot or cold and make a delightful gift.

The hotel’s bars and restaurants are offering cherry blossom-themed indulgences until 27 April 2018. The area wide Nihonbashi Sakura Festival runs from 16 March - 15 April, and features food stands offering local delicacies near Fukutoku Shrine on 31 March and 1 April. The Sakura Light-Up brings beauty to nighttime Nihonbashi by bathing the streets in shades of pink after dark during the festival period.

About Totally Tokyo “Five” Journeys from Nihonbashi:

The Totally Tokyo “Five” Journeys from Nihonbashi treatment was launched at The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo in March 2017. Inspired by the hotel’s location in Nihonbashi, the historical starting point of five routes connecting the capital with the provinces during the Edo period (1603 – 1868), the treatment uses the five classic Japanese ingredients of pine, plum, bamboo, green tea and rice bran to stimulate the five senses.

The treatment begins with a relaxing foot ritual, using pine oil to calm the mind with its fragrant scent, followed by a plum salt foot scrub. Next, rice bran heat packs are applied to warm the body during a full body shiatsu-style massage that releases muscle tension and aids relaxation. Price YEN41,000 plus tax and service charge.
