Award-winning luxury hospitality group The Cayuga Collection is proud to announce that Isla Palenque Island Resort, a 400-acre private island in the Gulf of Chiriquí, has been named a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World, and is now the third property in the Cayuga Collection’s portfolio to be awarded with this distinction.

National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World is a collection of lodges that invite guests to discover some of the planet’s most treasured places, while helping to protect those places for generations to come. These properties—each handpicked by National Geographic—share a strong commitment to sustainable practices and to protecting natural and cultural heritage. They embody the values that National Geographic holds close: authenticity, enrichment, and a dedication to preserving our planet’s diversity. The guest experience they offer is intimate and exceptional, inspiring guests to connect with their destination in a meaningful way—and to play a part in safeguarding it for the future.

Isla Palenque is a treasure – an island steeped in history with a keen presence for the environment at every turn – from the first-rate food and accommodations to the exceptionally trained staff, this recognition is very well deserved,” said Gary Evan Knell, Chairman of National Geographic Partners and former President and CEO of the National Geographic Society.

Nestled on Panama’s Pacific coast, Isla Palenque Island Resort is comprised of eight casitas, a six-room villa estate with its own restaurant, amenities and direct beach access – as well as onsite tours, iconic native wildlife and locally sourced food. Setting a new bar for sustainability and luxury in Panama and Central America’s hospitality offering, in the short time since its launch, the resort has received tremendous praise and acclaim from travelers, media and industry professionals, and has been heralded as one of the world’s most coveted must-see new destinations and properties.

We are thrilled for Isla Palenque Island Resort to receive this honor from National Geographic, and particularly overjoyed to now have three properties in our collection to hold this esteemed title,” said Hans Pfister, Co-founder and President of the Cayuga Collection of Sustainable Luxury Hotels and Lodges. “Isla Palenque is the tropical island experience that travelers dream of and is synonymous with the values and experience that is unique to the Cayuga Collection.”
