Experiences that are Exactly Like Nothing Else

Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott International’s dynamic portfolio of more than 180 independent hotels and resorts around the world, today welcomed two new one-of-a-kind properties to its European portfolio: Schloss Lieser, Germany and La Caserne Chanzy Hotel & Spa, France. With seven new additions so far this year, the brand’s European portfolio, now numbering more than 50 hotels, continues to add exceptional locations across the continent. Hand-selected for their founder’s passion, heartfelt design, inherent craft, and connection with the locale, each Autograph Collection hotel offers travellers rich immersive moments that leave a lasting imprint.

“With rapid growth from five hotels to more than 180 in just eight years, Autograph Collection Hotels is a leader in the independent hotel space, acting as a gateway to extraordinary and unconventional hotel experiences around the world,” said John Licence, VP Premium & Select Brands Europe, Marriott International. “We’re delighted to welcome these distinctive new hotels to our curated collection, bringing remarkable new experiences to consumers in additional European locations.”

Schloss Lieser, Germany

Nestled in the Moselle region, one of Germany’s most popular holiday destinations, Schloss Lieser is a magnificent castle with 50 sumptuous rooms. Built in 1885 and painstakingly restored in recent years, the hotel offers the grandeur of a 19th century castle with all the comforts of modern day. Rooms and suites are individually and tastefully furnished with antique furniture and ornate chandeliers, transporting guests back to a more decadent era.

History is embedded in the fabric of Schloss Lieser, with the castle linked to pivotal moments in both German and Dutch history. Previous owners include Clemens Freiherr von Schorlemer-Lieser, a wealthy politician who was related to the Dutch Royal Family. Over the centuries, politicians regularly gathered at the castle to discuss the future of Germany. Even the hotel’s fine-dining restaurant, Puricelli, takes its name from the Puricelli family who founded the castle.

Puricelli is the heart of the hotel and a warm, convivial space serving locally inspired dishes crafted by head chef Wolfgang Preßler. The carefully selected wine menu offers excellent wines from the Moselle region, as well as from all over the world. The Castle Bar captivates with classic leather armchairs and live music on select evenings.

The hotel’s wellbeing offering includes a fitness centre, indoor pool, and spa with three Finnish saunas, infrared sauna, steam room and multiple treatment rooms. Meetings, events and special occasions are expertly catered for across the hotel’s six meeting rooms including Ballroom, measuring 100 square metres.

Known for its stunning countryside and winemaking traditions (Riesling is a particularly famous export from the region), Moselle is an enchanting destination that Schloss Lieser celebrates throughout the guest experience. One of many immersive experiences, guests can adopt a grapevine from the hotel’s own vineyard, Schloßberg, and enjoy the wine produced from it during their next stay.

La Caserne Chanzy Hotel & Spa, Reims, France

La Caserne Chanzy Hotel & Spa is exceptionally located in the historic heart of Reims opposite the NotreDame de Reims Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Offering just 89 rooms, including 17 suites, half of them boast breath-taking views of the Cathedral. This former fire station is part of the Art Deco architectural heritage that marks the reconstruction of Reims in the 1920s.

Preserving the architectural integrity of the original building was a key objective of the transformation from fire station to boutique hotel, which was entrusted to architect Christophe Ballan (Thienot Ballan Zulaica) in association with the local design office. Interior design was led by Julie Fuillet of Julie Fuillet Studio who developed a scheme based on three principles - heritage, knowledge and initiation - to create a total sensory immersion. Artfully combined cork, wood and glass and a colour palette of gold, green and natural tones nod to the hotel’s location in Champagne and bring the outside in, while plush velvet adds a hint of luxury and intimacy.

The brasserie La Grande Georgette offers guests a typical and local bistronomic cuisine, made with fresh, quality products. Accommodating up to 82 guests, it has an open kitchen and an 80-seat heated terrace. True to Autograph Collection Hotels’ ethos that each hotel is inspired by a clear vision and story, the name “La Grande Georgette” comes from a tradition in the late 1920s to name the fire truck after the Captain’s wife. Further honouring the hotel’s past, a bell rings daily at 6pm with staff congregating at the old Fire Tower to pay tribute to the former fire station and brave firefighters.

La Caserne Chanzy has teamed up with French brand Deep Nature to offer guests and locals a 450 square metre wellness area in partnership with the cosmetics brand Vinésime. Accessed both from the hotel and a separate entrance, the spa is an invitation to serenity and offers relaxation and rejuvenation through five treatment cabins, an infinity pool with sensory course, a sauna, a steam room, an ice fountain, and a fitness room. In harmony with the identity of La Caserne Chanzy, Vinésime harvests grapes from the most prestigious vineyards to create the core of its products.

As well as a stunning winter garden, the hotel also offers 70 square metres of meeting space with a capacity of 50 people. The rooms are flexible and can be divided in two with an area of 35 m² each and a capacity of 19 people.
