Under this phase of the opening, Shangri-La presents a new approach to hospitality by concentrating the guest experience around its standalone food and beverage outlet, CHAO No.18 and the corresponding premium event – catering business.

“With Shangri-La Zhoushan, we have evolved the boundaries of our business by offering a restaurant and events venue,” said Tan Aik Peng, Chief Executive Officer, Food and Beverage, Shangri-La Group. “The presence of Shangri-La Zhoushan will allow us to tap into the rise of food tourism globally and to meet the domestic travel demand. More importantly, we believe our extensive culinary expertise will be able to meet the Chinese audience’s growing Food and Beverage interests for new and exciting epicurean experiences.”

Guests looking to embark on a culinary journey will enjoy the signature restaurant CHAO No.18, named after the hotel’s address of No. 18 Qiandao Road, as well as the ambition to lead culinary trends. In a city where seafood dominates, CHAO No.18 has crafted a niche by offering a variety of the freshest and sustainable local ingredients and seafood from the surrounding farms and waters while also combining authentic regional delights with Zhejiang, Huaiyang, Sichuan and Cantonese flavours. The menu is specially curated by Shangri-La culinary experts, who bring time-honoured heirloom recipes passed down from generations while featuring contemporary interpretations of classic flavours. Diners can expect CHAO No.18 signature dishes such as Slow Cooked Yellow Croaker with Fish Maw, Pan- fried Ox Tongue with Rose Salt, Claypot Stewed Chicken with Abalone and Duck Casserole with Dried Squid.

The restaurant presents the charms of Zhoushan’s local culture in a setting that blends wood pattern covering the walls and ceilings with cane lanterns and marine décors. For gatherings and special occasions, the restaurant boasts 11 private dining rooms and most of them overlook the beautiful East China Sea. Specially designed tables with a 3.9-metre circumference will comfortably seat 20 people, which is in keeping with the needs of domestic event organisers.

The 1,600 square metres Events Centre will add to the city’s total event space capacity and deliver premium catering and wedding services for the city’s residents. It has the largest pillar-free ballroom locally at 1,200 sqm and can accommodate 55 round tables. The Events Centre also has a spacious 400 sqm pre-function area, and two function rooms of over 120 sqm each.

In addition, the 350 square metres outdoor lawn offers a unique romantic setting for weddings and private banquets. This area can accommodate up to 200 guests. With these built-for-purpose event amenities, Shangri-La’s professional event planners and service teams are on hand to help guests create special and memorable experiences for every occasion.

“Shangri-La is well placed to cater to the growing demand for premium culinary and catering experiences in the local market and neighbouring cities,” said Thomas Zhang, General Manager of Shangri-La Zhoushan. “By infusing authentic Zhejiang cuisine with the freshest seafood and diverse signature delicacies sourced from all over China, we aim to create an exciting culinary destination for both travellers and local residents.”

In-house guests at Shangri-La Zhoushan will find greater convenience and more personalised experiences with Shangri-La’s new smart hotel technologies piloted.
