Vietnam’s handling of the pandemic has been hailed a success story the world over with no new cases of COVID-19 via community transmission for 89 days straight and zero fatalities.

After the 30-hectare resort reopened its doors on May 31 following a 40-day closure due to the global pandemic, it reported an average occupancy rate of 57 percent last month across its 196 pavilions and 384 suites, welcoming an average of 1,867 guests daily, who stay four days each on average.

The highest number of guests Alma welcomed on a single night in June was 2,364, equalling 79 percent occupancy.

Alma’s general manager Herbert Laubichler-Pichler said the resort was forecast to report an average occupancy rate of 60 per cent in July and 50 per cent in August, as families took summer vacation during Vietnam’s school holidays over July and August.

He anticipated that Alma would welcome 15,350 guests in July and 10,260 guests in August -- on average per day 1,981 guests and 1,323 guests respectively, set to also stay four days each on average.

“With the borders in Vietnam still closed to international travellers, we can’t believe how much demand there has been for travel in Vietnam by the Vietnamese,” Laubichler-Pichler said.

“After the lockdown and so much dour news worldwide, to see the resort fill up this way has been more than encouraging as optimistic locals and expats explore their own backyard, albeit with a newfound appreciation for travel following the restrictions.”

He said the resort’s high guest numbers were buoyed by a huge demand for multigenerational travel, with the resort’s oversized accommodations, including the three-bedroom pavilions, catering to families of up to four generations.

Bold, spacious and emblematic of Vietnam’s maturation as a destination, the independently owned and operated Alma offers plenty for families, including 14 food and beverage outlets and a cascade of 12 beachfront swimming pools. Other drawing cards include a science museum, 6000 square metre waterpark, 13-treatment room spa, art gallery, cinema, convention centre, amphitheatre, youth centre with virtual reality games, kid’s club, water sports centre, gymnasium and yoga room and an 18-hole putting green.

The occupancy rates incorporate time-share, free independent traveller (FIT) and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) guests.
