Following extensive renovations, the hotel reopened in May with a fresh interior design that unites the guest accommodations with an iconic bar and a serene wellness studio—all of which is backdropped by an urban park and the Italian Alps.

With the South Tyrolian properties 1477 Reichhalter, Villa Arnica, and Hotel Schwarzschmied under their belts, Klaus and Moritz Dissertori have become known for properties with exceptional gastronomic and guest experiences within the vicinity of the Dolomites—and their newest property, Parkhotel Mondschein, is no exception.

Located in the center of Bolzano, the property highlights its history with updates to meet the modern era.

The oldest part of the building dates back to 1320 and Studio Biquadra’s renovation preserved original features, including stone staircases, wide corridors, high ceilings, and stucco decorations. But these centuries-old features are complemented with contemporary statements, such as lamps by Hay and site-specific artworks.

White shutters and Art Nouveau balconies emerging from an ochre-colored, ivy-covered façade give way to bespoke furniture and plush fabrics by Casamanche, Dedar, and Pierre Frey. Parkhotel Mondschein is, at its core, a timeless retreat for locals and visitors alike.

The color palette of the entire property is defined by greens, greys, and browns, reflecting its mountainous backdrop as well as its location within an urban park.

In the 70 rooms and 6 suites, these colors are found prominently in refurbished oak floors, walls painted in light olive hues, and custom walnut wardrobes and desks.

Minimalism and a subtle elegance are exuded in the use of such high-quality materials as well as Simmons beds, AKOG bathrobes, and Susanne Kaufmann toiletries. Additionally, guests are provided with yoga mats to use during their stays, and rooms come equipped with inspiring book collections and one-of-a-kind pieces of art.

A relaxed sophistication is also found at Luna Bar, beloved by both city residents and guests.

From early to late morning, the á la carte breakfast menu offers everything from the finest Italian coffee and classic brioche pastries to hearty eggs benedict and light yogurt bowls with fresh fruit.

Throughout the day and into the evening, a snack menu is full of regional appetizers, like a selection of South Tyrolean cheeses or burrata with Prosciutto Crudo, and drinks including homemade sodas, classic cocktails, South Tyrolean natural wines, and rejuvenating smoothies.

With an emphasis on sustainable dining practices, cakes and syrups are made in-house, while breads and pastries come from the bakery next door. Everything else—from the coffees, teas, and juices to the eggs and jams—is sourced from small regional producers.

New to the hotel is arise Body & Mind Studio, which provides a meaningful and mindful movement and relaxation program for both hotel guests and the public. With a holistic approach to wellbeing, the classes are geared towards relaxing and regenerating the body and soul.

Enlivening Wake Up sessions are held every morning, while a variety of qigong, tai chi, and yoga classes are held throughout the day in the studio and in the park.

A diverse community of teachers and healers from around the globe are also invited to host retreats, and the hotel’s own specialty Inner Gardens program guides participants through yoga classes soundtracked with live cello, meditation sessions, and tea ceremonies. In addition to these mindful classes are a fully equipped gym and an aspen wood sauna.

Location

Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, in northern Italy, is known as a gateway to the Dolomites in the Italian Alps. Surrounded by green hills and vineyards, Parkhotel Mondschein has bikes for guests to rent—the perfect way to explore the immediate surroundings—while other activities in the area include stunning hikes, cable-car rides, and local wine tastings.

Within Bolzano, cultural highlights include the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology; the Duomo di Bolzano, which dates back to the 4th century; and Museion, a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art of Bolzano.

Parkhotel Mondschein is within walking distance of Bolzano’s train station, and the city also recently opened its own airport. Other nearby airports include Innsbruck, Verona, Bergamo, and Milan.
