The list is compiled from the votes of the 800-plus-strong Academy of anonymous experts, comprising a balanced mix of hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and seasoned luxury travellers, each carefully selected by a group of industry-leading Academy Chairs.

These hotels represent best-in-class hospitality and lay the foundation ahead of the unveiling of the full ranking of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 on 30 October.

The 51-100 List in Numbers

  • 13 independent hotels are featured on the list, with Badrutt’s Palace ranking highest at No.52
  • The list spans 24 different territories and 40 cities
  • Asia and Europe claim the highest number of hotels in each continent, each featuring 16 and 17 properties respectively
  • Hotels in Italy take the lead in Europe, with nine properties on the list
  • 12 properties appear from North America, four of which are in New York City
Since launching in 2023, The World’s 50 Best Hotels has set out to unite the travel and hospitality industry from all corners of the globe to celebrate the worlds leading hotels. With the announcement of the extended 51-100 list, the 50 Best community will continue to grow as it welcomes more hotels into the fold, highlighting an even wider range of hotels and individuals setting the standard for excellence in the travel industry.

Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, comments:As we enter our third year, we are delighted to honour even more of the world’s most outstanding hotels with the extended 51-100 list. The dedication and passion of the hotel industry means it is constantly growing and improving, so it is incredibly difficult for our judges to vote for just seven properties, resulting in just 50 of the world’s best being named. From this year and beyond, we will be able to showcase an even larger pool of hotels and territories, and celebrate the exceptional teams who bring them to reality with the extended list.”

How the 50 Best voting works

The Academy is the mechanism used to create The World’s 50 Best Hotels list.

To ensure the more than 800-voter-strong Academy provides a fair representation of the global hotel scene, the Academy Chairs are split across 13 geographical regions.

Each Chair is selected as an expert on the travel scene in their region, with outstanding hotel sector contacts. The 13 Academy Chairs each select a voting panel from their region, ensuring a balance of hoteliers, travel journalists, hotel educators, business travellers and consumer travel aficionados.

Each Academy member can vote for any hotel they have stayed in around the world, irrespective of their home region. Each voter casts seven votes for hotels in order of preference based on stays experienced in the two-year voting period. Voting is carried out individually and strictly confidentially on a secure site and remains confidential before the list announcement.

Academy Chairs are not privy to, nor have any knowledge of, the votes cast by the voters in their respective regions; furthermore, they are not official spokespeople for the 50 Best brand. Additional information on the Academy Chairs and how the voting works is available on the 50 Best FAQs page here.

None of the employees of 50 Best nor any sponsors associated with the awards has any influence over the results. A minimum of 25% of the panel will be renewed each year. All voters, aside from the Academy Chairs, remain anonymous to eliminate the possibility of lobbying.

Professional services consultancy Deloitte is the official independent adjudicator of The World’s 50 Best Hotels. Deloitte has been granted full and independent access to The World’s 50 Best Hotels voting process and data and has performed certain procedures to confirm the integrity and authenticity of the voting process and the resulting list.
