In its third year of celebrating Earth Day, which falls on 22 April, Banyan Tree Group introduces its latest offerings of thoughtful earth-friendly activities this month.

The aptly-named Better World campaign is strategically designated to highlight the Group’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility as well as to its guests, who expect nothing less than the signature levels of service and luxury from the leading international operator of boutique resorts and hotels, residences, spas and retail galleries.

Through the Better World campaign, the message is multi-pronged: one package, two-fold meaning, and a triple bottom line definition of success.

The Better World packages will be made available progressively at selected Banyan Tree and Angsana resorts worldwide, and are available until year-end. Guests may simply book the Better World package at each resort which combines the signature guest stay experience with an environmental and community support awareness activity.

Better World demonstrates, in name, the experience that guests will receive at Banyan Tree and Angsana properties. Each resort seeks to share the romantic, culturally enticing and visually stunning qualities of the location it occupies – in essence, guests are transported to a better world when they choose Banyan Tree or Angsana. At the same time, the Group holds Corporate Social Responsibility as a key founding corporate value, which is borne out by its efforts to embrace the environment and empower people since it began 14 years ago. Banyan Tree Group seeks to be an agent of social and economic development and help create a better world through pioneering and sharing responsible business practices.

Banyan Tree has always defined its overall success in three areas: financial performance, social performance, and environmental performance. With this triple bottom line concept of success as a backdrop, the company seeks to minimise its impacts while also maximising positive contributions to the human and natural environments.

Choose Your Better World

Deer Park Hotel, managed by Angsana, boasts a stunning location in the ‘golden triangle’ of Sri Lanka. Bordered by the grassy plains of Minneriya and Kandulla National Parks, this nature lover’s paradise offers opportunities for guided elephant drives, bird watching, bush walks and an excursion to Sigiriya, the royal palace built on a rock in the fifth century. Guests will be thrilled to experience all these activities in the three-night Better World package. In addition, they will be pampered by a free upgrade to Angsana Cottage on first available basis, as well as an Angsana Spa treatment choice of Ayurvedic or Earth Healer massage for two.

Angsana Riads Collection, Morocco is offering a three-night Better World package, which incorporates fascinating cultural insights. Guests will experience a trip to a handicraft shop, where they may customise a souvenir, as well visit a traditional bread oven. In addition, a vegetarian three-course dinner spells out the fresh, delightful Moroccan use of salads and grains for visitors to sample these artisanal gourmet items. Finally, guests are rewarded for their virtue: an Angsana Spa Taste of Earth treatment for two comprising a Hammam Black Soap Scrub, Ghassoul clay mask, and On The Spot massage.

The opportunity to go green has never been more real than at Angsana Great Barrier Reef, Australia. The resort’s three-night Better World package incorporates a full suite of tropical rainforest experiences, as it is located in proximity to the famous UNESCO World Heritage Daintree Rainforest. Accompanied by a certified eco tour guide, guests experience a full day which includes visits to the Rainforest Canopy Tower, aerial walkway, Cape Tribulation beach and boardwalk, and Mossman Gorge. A Daintree River Cruise caps the event.

Sister resorts Banyan Tree Bintan and Angsana Bintan have teamed up to ‘walk the talk’ – the two-night Better World packages at these two resorts offer an insightful nature walk amongst 100-year-old trees and other fascinating flora and fauna, with a rejuvenating foot massage session to seal the deal. Bringing out the diversity of the landscape, Banyan Tree Bintan offers a tree planting experience, while Angsana Bintan competes with a coral planting session, both highly rewarding ways of crowning a unique stay. A bigger world of choices is possible with Better World packages at Banyan Tree and Angsana resorts in the Maldives. Here, packages are exclusive of resort stay, so guests are free to take up any option which appeals most to them.

Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, which houses the first-of-its-kind Banyan Tree Maldives Marine Lab, offers one of the most comprehensive packages of marine activity. Guided snorkeling, and coral planting takes place under the watchful eyes of dedicated Marine Biologists, while unique opportunities abound to take part in a reef survey, take a manta tow ride, learn the technique of measuring and weighing endangered green sea turtles, and a special dive to the Lotus, an artificial reef. Cap off these strenuous activities with Banyan Tree Spa’s Island Dew massage session. Banyan Tree Madivaru, the Group’s newest resort and also the first to offer Tented Pool Villas in the Maldives, likewise offers the opportunity to take reef surveys, guided snorkeling trips as well as scheduled excursions on the Madi vessel, to relax on a dolphin and manta sighting cruise. Guests may also take an in-villa Banyan Tree Spa session, a signature feature of the Tented Pool Villas.

Angsana Velavaru, located in the South Nilandhe Atoll, and Angsana Ihuru in the North Male Atoll, offer similar packages including a marine biology and ecology session, coral planting and guided snorkeling trip to house reefs, and a dolphin cruise led by the respective Marine Lab’s resident Marine Biologist. Unwind with Angsana Spa’s Essensual Massage to contemplate nature’s power of healing.
