Global Hyatt Corporation Update on Grand Hyatt Amman, Jordan

Global Hyatt Corporation Update on Grand Hyatt Amman, Jordan

Category: Middle East -
This is a press release selected by our editorial committee and published online for free on 2005-11-18

Global Hyatt Corporation would like to express again its deepest sympathies to all of the victims of the November 9, 2005 terrorist attacks in Jordan. We are working with the owners of Grand Hyatt Amman to provide support to those guests and employees injured or otherwise affected by the attack, as well as the families of those victims. Steps we are taking to that end include assistance with medical expenses and grief counseling. Senior Hyatt executives have arrived in Amman to personally oversee these efforts.

Hyatt and the owners of Grand Hyatt Amman are fully cooperating with the Jordanian authorities conducting the investigations. As information regarding the victims becomes available to us from that investigation, we will seek permission from those authorities to release that information following direct contact with those victims or their families.

It is Hyatt’s intention to re-open the hotel as soon as that can be responsibly done. Cleanup and repair activities have already begun. It is anticipated that upon its re-opening, the hotel will adopt enhanced security measures in response to the altered circumstances prevailing in Amman. We anticipate being able to provide additional information regarding a re-opening schedule and related information within the next several days.

Hyatt maintains a carefully prepared security plan for each of its hotels, which allows flexibility for changing circumstances. The altered circumstances resulting from the attacks on the three hotels in Amman required a number of Hyatt hotels in other locations to adjust security to heightened levels. These security arrangements must be kept confidential in order to maintain their effectiveness.

Hyatt will continue its focus on the victims of the attack on the Grand Hyatt Amman and the recovery from this tragedy.
