Carlson Hotels Worldwide today announced that it has signed franchise or management agreements for 38 new properties in the second quarter of 2008. The new hotels and resorts span 13 countries, including 14 Radisson and Radisson SAS properties; 13 Country Inn & Suites By Carlson(SM) properties; two Park Plaza hotels; and nine Park Inn locations. Carlson\'s worldwide portfolio currently totals 995 hotels with more than 148,500 rooms in 73 countries. Carlson hotel brands also include Regent Hotels & Resorts.
\"These second quarter additions bring us to a total of nearly 90 new development agreements for the first half of 2008,\" said Jay Witzel, president and CEO of Carlson Hotels Worldwide. \"Although the economic climate is currently difficult in several regions of the world, we are encouraged by this strong pipeline of new development for our brands,\" Witzel added.
The following hotels have signed franchise or management agreements with Carlson Hotels Worldwide and are scheduled to open by 2011:
Radisson Hotels & Resorts
Radisson Hotels & Resorts signed five properties in the second quarter of 2008 with three in the United States and two in India.
The Radisson Hotel Orlando - International Drive, set to open later this year, will be the closest Radisson to Universal Orlando and Orange County Convention Center. The resort will offer free scheduled transportation to Universal Studios, City Walk, Sea World(R) and Wet n\' Wild and also provide complimentary access to the YMCA Aquatic & Family Center adjacent to property. Featuring 221 rooms, the 100% smoke free Radisson Hotel Orlando - International Drive will offer Sleep Number(R) beds throughout the property, wireless Internet access in the rooms and lobby, and a full service restaurant and lounge.
The Radisson Hotel Haridwar in the Uttarakhand region of India is scheduled to open in 2010. The hotel will provide 120 rooms with a variety of upscale amenities including a coffee shop, specialty restaurant, swimming pool, health club, beauty parlor, and business center. Haridwar is a holy city and is regarded as one of the seven holiest places to the Hindu religion.
Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts
The Rezidor Hotel Group, Carlson\'s minority-owned partner in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, signed nine new Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts in nine countries including Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco and Norway.
The Radisson SAS Resort Saidia, Morocco is situated in one of the most desired seaside resort locations in Northern Morocco. Upon completion in mid 2010, the hotel will provide 481 beautifully designed guestrooms including 97 villas, 3 restaurants and approximately 16,000 square feet of conference and banqueting facilities. The property will also offer another 16,000 square feet of an authentic Moroccan-themed Spa and Thalasso Centre including a fully equipped fitness center. The exclusively designed villas will be located in a separate community, featuring swimming pools, meeting rooms and additional restaurant & bars, entertainment facilities.
Scheduled to open in 2011, the Radisson SAS Sorlandet Resort, Tromoya Arendal, Norway is located along the ocean in Tromoya, close to Arendal on the southern coast of Norway. Sorlandet is known for its beautiful strip of lowland areas along the coast that quickly rise into interior mountains and plateaus. Set to be the largest resort in Norway, the property will feature 290 rooms and suites, two signature restaurants, lobby bar, meeting and conference facilities, and state-of-the-art spa and fitness area. In addition, the resort will offer 40 chalets, a year-round ice skating rink, a cinema, an aqua park, indoor parking area, a year-round marina nestled within a mountain, and a small shopping gallery.
Country Inns & Suites By Carlson
Country Inns & Suites By Carlson signed 13 new properties, with nine in the U.S. -- including Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Idaho -- and four in India.
Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Clearwater, Fla. will be the first Country Inn & Suites property in Clearwater when it opens in 2010. Located within walking distance to Clearwater\'s famous beaches, the hotel will feature 76 rooms and suites that offer free high-speed Internet access throughout the hotel. The hotel will be close to several area attractions including Clearwater Marina Aquarium, St. Petersburg Pier, Pinellas Trail and Busch Gardens.
Scheduled to open in fall of 2009, the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, St. Louis Airport West, Mo. will feature 90 rooms and will be in close proximity to Lambert-St. Louis International airport. Located in Bridgeton, Mo., The hotel will offer free high-speed Internet access, swimming pool and complimentary breakfast every morning. Bridgeton is the oldest community in St. Louis County and one of the oldest in the State of Missouri.
Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts
Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts signed two new properties in India in the second quarter of 2008 including the Park Plaza Noida and Park Plaza Ahmedabad.
Scheduled to open later this year in one of the most modern cities of Delhi\'s suburbs, the Park Plaza Noida will be a prime travel location for businesses visiting the many multinational firms and branch offices based there. The hotel will feature 88 rooms and a variety of amenities including a swimming pool, health club, beauty parlor, specialty restaurant, and ample banquet facilities.
Park Inn
Park Inn signed nine new properties in six countries including Germany, Scotland, Canada, Austria, India and Norway.
The Park Inn Stuttgart will be built directly at Hauptstatter Strasse / Kolbstrasse in the city center, within walking distance to Marienplatz, as part of a mixed use complex including apartments, retail and offices. Upon completion, the hotel will feature 181 guest rooms including lobby bar, restaurant with external terrace, eight meeting rooms and pre-function area, fitness & wellness area with rooftop terrace overlooking the city of Stuttgart, and underground parking. Other attractions within the city include the zoological and botanical garden and the Mercedes-Benz museum. The property is scheduled to open in early 2010.
