Leading luxury travel network, Virtuoso in collaboration with its award-winning lifestyle magazine, Virtuoso Life, announced its Best of the Best Hotel Awards at a recent gala dinner in Las Vegas.

Taking first place in the Most Environmentally Friendly category, was Soneva Fushi by Six Senses. Located in the Maldives’ Baa Atoll, the resort was cited by Virtuoso for its “revenue donations to local and global community projects, reduced energy consumption, increased energy efficiency and an initiative to manage/protect water resources”.

The Spa at the Six Senses Hideaway Samui walked away with the top award for Best of the Best in the Spa category.

The prestigious event was attended by more than 265 hoteliers and 981 travel consultants, and took place during Virtuoso’s annual Travel Mart Conference at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. Virtuoso is a by-invitation-only organization and comprises more than 300 independent agencies with more than 6,000 elite travel specialists in 22 countries. The network’s member agencies generate over $4.2 billion annually in travel sales, making the group the most powerful in the luxury travel segment.

“The hotels and resorts recognised with this award exemplify what our programme strives for: to flawlessly serve Virtuoso’s clientele while delivering an experience that exceeds all expectations,” says Albert Herrera, Vice President of Virtuoso’s Hotels & Resorts Programme. “They truly represent the ‘best of the best’.”

“When you work with the world’s best hotels and resorts, it’s difficult to narrow down the nominees to five per category,” says Elaine Srnka, Editorial Director of Virtuoso Life. “Ultimately, we identified those that represent the excellence of our own Hotel & Resort Programme and mirror Virtuoso’s commitment to serving discerning travellers. The September issue of the magazine honours the winning properties, making it the quintessential guide to the world’s finest hotels and resorts.”
