JIA Shanghai’s popular Italian restaurant Issimo with cuisine conceptualized by celebrity chef Salvatore Cuomo, is introducing traditional family-style extended Sunday dining. Starting from October 12, served every Sunday from midday to 8pm, the unique ‘Sundissimo’ concept is expected to become a Shanghai dining institution.

“In my family we had simple, quick meals during the week, but Sunday was a different story, bringing all the family together, enjoying wonderful fresh food and good company,” said Executive Chef William Dii Nardo. The ‘Sundissimo’ concept revives the family gatherings every Italian remembers fondly from childhood.

Priced at RMB 375 ++ per person, the rotating menu features a wide range of authentic Italian dishes designed to be enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere over several hours. Issimo offers diners the option of bringing their own wines without surcharge or for an additional RMB75++ per person, enjoying free-flow prosecco during the meal. Diners can enjoy tasting all the appetizers, pastas and desserts which are served to share, with an individual main course of your choice.

Just as in Italy, diners begin by enjoying eight different antipasto items to whet the appetite – affettati cold cuts, homemade sott’oli pickles, frittatas, shellfish, bruschetta and salads. Slices of margherita pizza fresh from the authentic wood-fired oven are a must to try - founder chef Salvatore Cuomo, won Napoli’s Pizzafest, the ‘world cup’ for pizza-makers, for three years running.

Two dishes are offered as pastas, cooked a la minute - Tagliatelle tossed with traditional Bolognese sauce and Gnocchi with cream and mushroom sauce. The Mains which are chosen individually by each diner include grilled choice cuts of meat or seafood or a combination of both, served with grilled seasonal vegetables and hash potatoes. And for a sweet end to a hearty family-style meal, Warm apple pie bites with vanilla sauce and Peach salad in white wine and mint are offered for dessert.

For those who prefer to just relax in the rustic and cosy surroundings over a drink, Issimo Lounge offers a bottle of chilled Prosecco and complimentary antipasti at RMB 188++. Issimo’s a la carte menu is also available on Sundays but served only in the Lounge area.

“Two key ingredients at Issimo are the authenticity of our Italian cuisine and the passion with which we cook” added Salvatore Cuomo. The new Sunday lunch concept definitely continues this authentic tradition.
