New guestrooms meld contemporary design with subtle Southwestern style

Embracing the style of today’s traveler by marrying modern amenities and services with a longstanding tradition of excellence, the AAA Five Diamond Fairmont Scottsdale has unveiled the renovation of 461 guestrooms and suites, part of a more than $30 million transformation of the resort that began in late 2007.
With subtle, sophisticated elegance as its hallmark, the design of the recreated guestrooms reflects the warm, contemporary style of the new Southwest. Masterfully directed by Looney & Associates, award-winning specialists in the hospitality design field, the resort’s rooms combine state-of-the-art products and technology with the timeless beauty of natural elements including wood, stone, natural textiles and a palette inspired by the Sonoran Desert.
“The new room design, which is softly contemporary with regional references, features a modern Southwest style that is reminiscent of the stunning surroundings,” said Selena Durbin, lead designer with Looney & Associates.
The earthy palette is inspired by the beautiful Sonoran Desert mountains and cacti, and includes soft greens, intense blues, and warm creamy neutrals. The new furnishings are largely constructed of natural materials such as woven leathers and wools, oil-rubbed bronze metals, and woods including teak and walnut.
The oversized guestrooms measure a minimum of 525 square feet and feature 42-inch flat screen televisions, ihome ™ audio system, upholstered headboards, a separate seating area, executive desk with high speed internet access and contemporary photography and artwork that reflect the area’s natural surroundings. Most guestrooms include a built-in wet bar for guests’ convenience.
Guest bathrooms, which feature soaking tubs and separate glass-enclosed showers, have been updated to include a new granite vanity top with dual sinks and low-water-use plumbing fixtures.
Incorporating the resort’s conservation efforts as a part of Fairmont’s Green Partnership, guests are offered the option of daily linen service and each guestroom offers woven recycling baskets for paper, plastic and aluminum recycling. The new bathroom fixtures incorporate water-saving measures and lighting throughout the guestrooms includes energy-saving CFLs.
Each room provides a private balcony or patio with cushioned seating from which guests can soak in the awe-inspiring desert and mountain landscapes all around them.
In addition to the recreated guestrooms, the Fairmont Scottsdale’s transformation has included the addition of BOURBON STEAK, an contemporary American steakhouse by acclaimed chef Michael Mina and the Stone Rose Lounge, an indoor and outdoor bar and lounge by nightlife entrepreneurs Rande Gerber and Scott Gerber. Fairmont Gold, Fairmont’s exclusive lifestyle hotel experience, opened in April and encompasses 66 guestrooms, three suites and a 2,100 square foot private lounge where guests enjoy private check-in and check-out, concierge service, complimentary deluxe continental breakfast, cocktail hour canapés and honor bar. The resort also unveiled Casa Dorada, its 3,700 square-foot, four bedroom “golden house” complete with private pool and Jacuzzi, expansive patio, media room with 72-inch plasma screen TV and spacious living room.
