Applauded by Travel+Leisure South East Asia for "a much needed dose of boutique intimacy"

Chic boutique residence JIA Shanghai has been voted one of the world's top 27 new hotels on Travel + Leisure South East Asia's “It List” 2008. JIA Shanghai was the only hotel in China to receive this prestigious accolade.

The world's leading travel magazine applauded the fashionable 55-room retreat on the corner of Nanjing Road and Tai Xing Road for "bringing a much needed dose of boutique intimacy to the city's booming hotel scene".

Designers Andre Fu, HPG-BURO Architects and Darryl Goveas were congratulated for "crafting a well-choreographed hideaway" out of the stunning 1920’s building.

The magazine concluded: "JIA means 'home" in Mandarin and given how frenetic Shanghai is, we loved the property's host of crazy amenities: well stocked marble kitchenettes, in-room board games and complimentary bottled water. There's even free wi-fi - still a luxury among upscale properties."

JIA is noted for its multitude of complimentary ‘extras’ which travellers welcome in today’s difficult economy – its room rate includes breakfast, 24-hour coffee, tea, water and juices, afternoon cakes and evening wine/prosecco in the lobby, broadband/wifi connectivity throughout hotel, welcome flute of champagne/cocktail, local phone calls, use of conference room for up to 2 hours and more…

The award arrives hot-on-the-heels of Shanghai's first true design-led boutique residence being voted on Condé Nast Traveller's “Hot List” 2008, in both the UK and USA polls.

Condé Nast Traveler welcomed the “unabashedly contemporary” rooms and “push for five-star comforts” as well as striking designer furniture, lighting, artwork and “communication technology which will impress technology snobs”.

JIA's lobby-level lounge was recognised as “a meeting place for Shanghai's beautiful people”, bathrooms were "among Shanghai’s best" and this “exceptional boutique hotel” also serves “China’s finest pizzas” at ISSIMO.

This year JIA Shanghai was also voted “Best Hotel Design” in Interior Design China’s Hospitality Design Awards, “It List” in Travel + Leisure and among the top 50 “Best Business Hotels’ by Wallpaper and Fortune magazines.
