Contemporary French Fare set to take Hong Kong’s Starstreet by Storm

After 14 years as the finest and most respected restaurant in Singapore, award-winning Les Amis is to open its first overseas branch in Hong Kong at one of the city’s up and coming locations – Starstreet – in mid December.

Les Amis, which was ranked amongst the World’s Top 100 Restaurants by Restaurant Magazine U.K. in 2007 and more recently one of the top three restaurants in Asia by the Miele Guide 2008/09, brings to Hong Kong the same award-winning formula of pairing exquisite French fare with one of the region’s finest wine lists and personalised service. The elegant flagship restaurant in Singapore has been a staple for connoisseurs of top-notch French gastronomy since 1994, and Les Amis Hong Kong promises to be no different.

At the helm of Les Amis Hong Kong is the same award-winning team that has assured the success of Les Amis Singapore. Resident Chef Thomas Mayr promises light and contemporary dishes, focusing on quality ingredients which complement the local climate and palate. Director of Operations Randy See, voted Sommelier of the Year at the annual World Gourmet Summit for three consecutive years, will also be overseeing the team in Hong Kong, assuring great service, cuisine, attention to every detail and most of all the true Les Amis experience.

With interiors by renowned architect Tan Kay Ngee known for his high profile projects such as Commune by the Great Wall, Les Amis Hong Kong will be a vision of understated elegance. The new Hong Kong location boasts over 7000 square feet of breathtaking space spread over 3 levels, each with its own unique identity and purpose.

With inspiration drawn from classic European architecture, the restaurant will be reminiscent of an 18th Century French Villa. A grand entrance will greet guests with a stunning backlit Onyx marble wall feature, making immediately obvious the theatrical design of the restaurant. The ground floor will also feature a plush bar and dramatic wine cellar. Seating up to 13 guests, the bar is set to be one of Hong Kong’s exclusive places to enjoy the best wines in town.

The main dining hall, seating merely 42 people, is on the first floor and a private dining room seating up to 14 people occupies the second level. The dining areas are presented in an array of glamour sure to wow guests with warm tones, timber arches and 100 year old antique chandeliers specially flown in from Europe. Like a theatre set, the interior action will be seen from the outside, as diners become performers animating the space. The intricate, decorative pieces are simple, modern and elegant. Their sparkle adds a touch of old world charm to the cutting-edge interior that encapsulates the classic yet contemporary feel of Les Amis.

Les Amis Hong Kong will also boast an expansive collection of almost 2,000 wine labels with competitive prices, in a spacious, temperature-controlled cellar. The emphasis on wine pairing means that food can be tailored to the chosen wine, and of course the other way round.

Situated in the up-and-coming Starstreet precinct in Wanchai, and still only a stone’s throw from Central and Causeway Bay, Les Amis will provide a secluded hideaway for connoisseurs of fine food and wine in the heart of town.

“Les amis in French of course means friends, and friends serving friends is the concept Les Amis was built on. The team and I look forward to bringing our passion for good food and wine to our friends in Hong Kong” says Director of Operations, Randy See.
