Omni Hotels announces today that they will become the long term operator of the renowned Bedford Springs Resort located in Pennsylvania’s scenic Cumberland Valley. The new partnership is part of Omni’s ongoing strategic expansion, through ownership and long term management agreements, across North America. Omni Hotels will begin management of the luxury property on January 1, 2009, which will be flagged as the Omni Bedford Springs Resort.

The renowned circa 1796 resort completed an $120 million restoration and expansion in July, 2007 after being closed for over 20 years. The transformation included painstakingly reclaiming the gracious Georgian-style exteriors; enlarging and updating the beautiful 216 guestrooms and suites; adding a 30,000 square foot world-class spa featuring restorative treatments from the local mineral-rich waters; incorporating an elegant, relaxing indoor spring-fed pool; creating a new 20,000 square foot state-of-the art meeting and events center ideal for both high-caliber meetings or destination weddings; developing a wide range of culinary offerings within five unique dining venues; revamping the expansive 2200-acre grounds including gardens, swimming and recreational facilities, bike and hiking trails and fishing; and redeveloping the storied 18-hole golf course, which was established in 1895 and is one of the first designed in the U.S. The golf course restoration was led by architect Ron Forse, returning it to its original layout.

Leisure guests and meeting professionals alike will discover the resort represents a wonderful setting for creating one-of-a-kind, memorable experiences.

“We are exceptionally pleased to add this extraordinary resort to the Omni portfolio given its fine heritage and comprehensive renovation,” said Mike Deitemeyer, president of Omni Hotels. “We believe that the property extends our luxury resort collection and exemplifies our commitment to deliver truly memorable experiences to our guests.”

The resort is three miles off the Pennsylvania Turnpike, a scenic drive from many major metropolitan areas: Pittsburgh (90 minutes), Washington, DC (two hours), Baltimore (two hours), Philadelphia (three hours) and New York City (four hours). Several major airports are also within a two-hour drive: Pittsburgh International, Reagan National, Dulles International and Baltimore/Washington International (BWI).

Past guests include numerous U.S. presidents, celebrities and heads of state. The resort also served as President James Buchanan’s summer White House.
