Judging by the roaring applause that greeted Muzaffer Bulgurcuoglu upon the announcement that he won the title “2008 General Manager of the Year,” it was obvious that the General Manager of Sohar Beach by Swiss-Belhotel Oman was the unanimous choice and that each of the Swiss-Belhotel executives present that night agreed with the verdict.
Swiss-Belhotel International is one of the world’s top international hotel management chains with properties in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions. The group recently gathered for its 3-day Annual General Managers’ Conference at their new deluxe 5-star property in Medan, the Grand Swiss-Belhotel Medan, to celebrate the group’s phenomenal growth this 2008 and to gear up for the challenges of 2009. And although numerous exciting updates, announcements and reports were made during the Conference, the evening of the 29th November proved to be the most awaited and the most thrilling as the group’s biggest achievers were recognized.
Gavin Faull, Swiss-Belhotel President, presented the widely coveted award to Bulgurcuoglu and congratulated him by saying, “any group is only as good as the members of its team, and Muzaffer has proven to be a great team leader.”
Swiss-Belhotel International took over the operations of Sohar Beach by Swiss-Belhotel Oman in January 2008 and Bulgurcuoglu joined the team 2 months later. His passion for service excellence and commitment towards consistently achieving guest satisfaction brought the dormant beach resort property to life. He humbly acknowledges the praises while saying “This hotel has immense potential. It just needed someone to take it in the right direction, and I am glad to assume the part”
Within a short span of time after assuming his post, Bulgurcuoglu undertook the renovation of Sohar Beach by Swiss-Belhotel, drastically changing its look with freshly painted walls, exotic refurbishment of the two in-house bars, revamping the Food & Beverage menus and refurbishing restaurant equipment, creating an all new beach bar and introducing the business centre with its high speed internet connectivity. Bulgurcuoglu even went one step further and got the approval of the Ministry of Municipality for the private utilization of the beach by Swiss-Belhotel guests.
Mr. Edgar Solenthaler, Vice President for Operations and Development-Middle East, said, “Muzaffer’s achievements brings great pride especially to the Middle East Regional Office. In a short period of time, the resort underwent a lot of improvements and has been brought up to the standards of Swiss-Belhotel International. These efforts are paying off particularly in terms of revenue and increased occupancy.”
When asked how he feels about the coming year, Bulgurcuoglu replied, “With 44 more rooms soon to open, I see a lot of exciting moments ahead. My goal for the coming year is to go higher and farter, always keeping in mind Swiss-Belhotel’s motto of ‘Passion and Professionalism’ for the whole team.”
