Kai Restaurant Receives the Coveted Five Star Rating and Aji Spa Receives Four Stars

Kai restaurant at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa in Chandler, AZ is awarded Mobil Travel Guide’s highest rating with the Mobil Five Star Award. Kai is the only Five Star recipient in Arizona (in any category) and is one of only four in the U.S. to be added to the prestigious list, marking the first time in history for any Sheraton property to receive this exclusive award. In addition, no other Mobil Five Star Award winner has ever been Native American owned or operated.

Kai opened in October of 2002 with unique cuisine, coined “Native American with Global Accents.” Executive Chef Michael O’Dowd and Consulting Chef Janos Wilder worked closely with local Gila River Farms and Gila Crossing Elementary Schools to incorporate locally grown and indigenous ingredients into the menu based on avant-garde culinary styles woven with traditional techniques of Native Elders. The Resort’s management has continued to enhance the service and décor of the restaurant to achieve Five Diamond/Five Star status, and today that fate is sealed.

The Aji Spa was also the only new Arizona spa on the list of Four Star recipients, making it one of only 95 in the U.S. and in the top seven spas in the state. Aji is a 17,500 sq. ft. full service salon and spa that recently launched a new menu of Pima and Maricopa treatments as well as their new signature “Indigenous” line of products. This new focus solidifies Aji as the most authentic Native American spa experience in the country and goes above and beyond the typical luxurious spa experience.

“This is truly an honor and a tribute to our entire Resort staff,” said Bunty Ahamed, General Manager. “The Resort experience begins with the call to reservations and continues with the valet at the front drive and the genuinely friendly staff that you’ll encounter throughout your visit. In this economy, it’s imperative to be ‘different, better, special’ and our team works tirelessly to anticipate the needs of our guests. We’re thrilled that Kai’s ability to execute flawless and unpretentious service along with world-class cuisine has garnered this prestigious Five Star award and, along with Aji’s accomplishments, has ranked our Resort among the best in the world.”

Since 1958, Mobil Travel Guide’s ratings process has been based on more than 750 standardized criteria for hotels, more than 250 for restaurants and, more recently, 450 different criteria for spas, making it the most rigorous and comprehensive in the industry. To achieve Mobil Travel Guide Four and Five Star status, properties must meet or exceed Mobil Travel Guide’s bar-setting service standards, which are determined through an unannounced, undercover service evaluation conducted by Mobil Travel Guide’s expert inspectors.
