Marriott realigns Asia Pacific Regional Leadership

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has announced the realignment of its Asia-Pacific regional leadership. Effective immediately,

• Stan Brown has been named area vice president for China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Korea. He replaces Tuni Kyi who has assumed the position of market vice president and general manager of the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, a Marriott Resort, in South Florida, US. Mr. Brown was formerly area vice president for Hawaii, Guam and Japan, based in Honolulu.

• Ed Hubennette, formerly vice president for Asia & South Pacific with responsibility for Thailand, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Pakistan and Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, has been named vice president for Japan & Pacific. He will undertake Mr. Brown’s former responsibilities while retaining operational responsibility for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. He will be based in Hawaii.

• Craig Smith, general manager of the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, has been promoted to area vice president and will oversee properties in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India and Pakistan. He will be based in Hong Kong.

All three report to Geoff Garside, executive vice president for Marriott’s Asia-Pacific Region, based in Hong Kong., and are responsible for the operational success of all Marriott International hotels in Asia-Pacific including properties in its JW Marriott, Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard, Marriott Executive Apartments and New World portfolios.

“This realignment is the result of our strong global growth which continuously opens leadership opportunities,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “We are fortunate to have capable leaders on our team who bring a depth of operational and marketing experience and who have the flexibility and cultural sensitivity to be successful in virtually any environment. These gentlemen have distinguished themselves in their previous assignments and we are confident that they will approach their new roles with vigor and creativity.”

Mr. Fuller said that the Marriott International portfolio in Asia-Pacific encompasses more than 100 hotels and resorts and vacation ownership communities with another 16 properties scheduled to open over the next 24 months.

Mr. Brown joined Marriott International in 1981 as an operations trainee in Philadelphia, PA, USA. Over the course of his career, he has served in numerous capacities in steadily increasing responsibility at 10 hotels in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Australia. He is a native of Haddonfield, NJ, and a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration. Mr. Brown will be based in Hong Kong.

Mr. Hubennette joined Marriott International in 1974 as restaurant manager at the company’s first hotel, the Twin Bridges Marriott property in suburban Washington, D.C. After a short time with Marriott, he left to pursue other opportunities of increasing responsibility with Sheraton, Inter-Continental and Royal Garden Resorts in Thailand. He rejoined Marriott in 1997 as area vice president for Japan and Korea. He will be based in Honolulu.

Mr. Smith joined Marriott International in 1988 in Southern California. Over the years, he has served in a number of capacities including general manager of a variety of Marriott and Renaissance hotels in El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Peru and Thailand. He will be based in Hong Kong.
