Les Pavillons, Naïade’s latest jewel, reopens its doors after a complete renovation. The hotel, situated at Le Morne, now glitters as a magnificent 5 star establishment. Interior designer Virginie Koenig elaborates on her concept and vision.

Luxury, contemporary and colonial: three key words to describe a timeless 5 star. An elegant and sumptuous hotel, with discreet luxury. Noble and eternal materials, such as the mineral designs that adorn the Nymphéa spa walls. Marble, wood and other noble elements combine to create the luxurious cachet of this 5 star.

Interior designer Virginie Koenig is already reputed for her previous achievements with Naïade: the Villas du Beau Rivage, Tamassa and Diva (Maldives). She has banked on traditional noble materials to position Les Pavillons in Time. “I wanted to turn Les Pavillons into a solid, lasting showpiece,” says Virginie Koenig. “An elegant, but timeless hotel. I was delighted that Naïade Resorts gave us a free mandate. We enjoyed every aspect of the assignment and created a really luxurious product.”

The professional interior designer explains that, for this renovation project, she and her team judiciously drew from the research, experience and contacts gathered during the Diva (Maldives) Project. “As we did for Diva,” she says, “we had recourse to the best craftsmen from Indonesia and the biggest European suppliers for our textiles, marble or lighting requirements, for instance. The nacre which adorns the Nautile bar is the same as that which can be found in Diva.”

Les Pavillons proposes an elegant and classy environment. “We have created a neutral environment, avoiding too many colours, thus allowing the materials to play a centre stage role. Wood, marble, leather, bamboo, stone, to name a few, have combined to create this elegant environment. Richness of detail was an imperative,” she adds. The interior designer has achieved an exquisite blending of materials, as she explains: “You will note, for example, the different wood tones in the same room. There is a beautiful blending of materials in the bathroom, with only one background colour and wood, glass, marble and leather. The palette of colours has been replaced by a palette of materials. We have mostly utilized timeless colours such as brown, beige, grey and golden.” The team allowed itself a few extravagances, with dashes of colours here and there, such as the vintage copper tone in the Horizon restaurant.

Virginie Koenig concludes: “This resolute aesthetic direction bias served our final aim: transform Les Pavillons into a timeless hotel. We think it will delight an up-market, wealthy clientèle, used to a luxurious environment and able to appreciate the authenticity of the noble materials that we have selected.”

Zoom on the renovation
Naïade Resorts contracted with the best Mauritian and international professionals for this project’s architecture and design. The renovation works lasted 10 months and the cost amounted to Rs1.1 billion.
Architect Jean Marc Eynaud was behind the new Les Pavillons’ plans, whilst Virginie Koenig designed the interior decoration. Jean Marc Eynaud has designed a number of prestigious hotels in Mauritius: The Prince Maurice, Shanti Ananda, Heritage amongst others.
Naïade Resorts had no hesitation to call upon the services of international consultants, such as the American lighting designer Bo Stieber, who has created an exclusive lighting ambience for Les Pavillons. The soft, cosy atmosphere in the rooms and suites is sublimely enhanced by judicious, subtle lighting arrangements. The American’s reputation is well established across the world. He recently worked on the Cowrie Cove Mactan Shangri-La Resort project in the Philippines and on the Huvaten Fushi Spa Resort project in Maldives.

The new Les Pavillons
The art of living in Les Pavillons is conjugated in a contemporary style, the hotel being equipped with all the latest technologies – LCD screens, WI-FI access, iPod…
Les Pavillons still boasts 149 rooms, which are now more spacious, and four restaurants at the heart of the hotel: Nipa, a Thai gastronomic restaurant, Horizon, the main restaurant with its Show Kitchen, the Nautile bar for light meals and the Obergine with its Mediterranean cuisine.
The luxury Nymphéa Spa, with its advanced professional treatments, is one of the strongest trump cards of Les Pavillons. Nestled at the heart of a mineral garden, with the Pamplemousses Garden water lily as emblem, the Nymphéa Spa celebrates the benefits of water. Ten treatment rooms are available, as well as two external double kiosks. The Nymphéa Spa has its own pool and all massage tables are equipped with hydro mattress.
