Benchmark’s Burt Cabañas Addresses “Surviving the Recession” in Inc. Magazine

Benchmark Hospitality International has announced that Inc. Magazine recently named the leading hospitality management company to the “Inc. 500/5000” list of fastest growing privately owned companies in America. Inc. Magazine’s listing appeared in the print and online edition the end of 2008.

Benchmark was invited by Inc. Magazine to submit an application for the Inc. 500/5000 list following the publication’s discovery that Benchmark Hospitality was one of the fastest growing privately held companies in Texas, where it is based. Upon acceptance by Inc. Magazine, Benchmark was placed on the national Inc. 500/5000 Fastest Growing Companies list.

Benchmark Hospitality’s Burt Cabanas Addresses Recession in Inc. Magazine

Inc. Magazine subsequently reached out again to Benchmark Hospitality International, interviewing the company’s Founder, Chairman and CEO Burt Cabañas for a story appearing in the January 2009 issue on “What it takes to Survive a Recession.” A recognized industry leader and one of the founders of the conference center niche of hospitality, Mr. Cabañas was included in the article with other Inc. 500/5000 list leaders, offering insights on the national business climate and, for Cabañas, on the hospitality and meetings industries.

In his comments, Cabañas sounded a hopeful note by projecting a movement toward recovery in 2010. “If you go back to 1980 and evaluate all of the downturns we’ve had in the economy, you will find that most companies will not go for more than 18 months before reinstating off-site meeting schedules. I see no reason to believe the same would not apply here.”

A 40-year veteran of the hospitality industry, Burt Cabañas is also a founder, charter member and former president of the International Association of Conference Centers www.iacconline.org, the premier organization governing the multi-billion dollar conference center industry globally.
