Embassy Suites Charlotte/Concord Golf Resort & Spa in North Carolina captured Embassy Suites Hotels’ prestigious “Make A Difference Hotel of the Year Award.” The award was announced and presented to the resort’s General Manager Terry Crawford during an awards ceremony at the brand’s annual General Manager and Directors of Sales conference in San Diego on May 13, 2009. It was the only property from the brand’s portfolio of 200 hotels and resorts to capture the special honor, which went to the entire staff for demonstrating the Embassy Suites “Make A Difference” service culture. The resort’s team was honored for its outstanding community service in Concord, North Carolina, as well as for creating several team member initiatives that increased the resort’s guest service satisfaction scores, and for its associate recognition programs.
“Our resort is truly committed to ‘Making A Difference’ in the lives of guests, team members and the community,” said Crawford. “We’re so proud of our entire team for this very special recognition.”
Among the many reasons credited for the resort receiving the prestigious honor were its high guest satisfaction scores, its management’s quarterly associate recognition luncheons where team members can receive “Difference Dollars” for use at fun quarterly silent auctions, and new and enhanced workplace safety programs. The efforts translated into a 36% decrease in team member turnover over last year, and three team members were named “Spirit of Embassy” winners over the course of the year.
In addition, the resort staff’s high level of community involvement was also cited as a reason for the honor. Team members work with two community organizations that help with job placement for people with special circumstances, such as those who are refugees and individuals with disabilities. During the past year team members hosted a blood drive, held a carnival to raise funds for a battered women’s shelter, donated gifts to children through the Angel Tree project, volunteered in a local soup kitchen, and participated in the construction of Habitat for Humanity’s 100th house.
The resort also founded its area’s first chapter of First Tee, an organization that provides young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values, such as confidence, perseverance and judgment through golf and character education.
