Zendai Art Hotel, a luxury 5-star hotel opening next year in Shanghai, has recently joined Preferred Hotels & Resorts.

Zendai Art Hotel is one of only four hotels in China admitted to this prestigious collection of 222 luxury independent hotels and resorts.

Developed by the Zendai Group, the owner, Mr. Dai Zhi Kang, has placed significant emphasis on making this hotel a living, thriving display of Chinese art. The building itself was designed by Arata Isozaki, designer of the Barcelona Olympic Stadium, and interiors by KCA International, of Burj al Arab fame.

“The Himalayas Centre will be an iconic development in Shanghai. The Zendai Art Hotel promises to be unique in its artistic vision and what it has to offer. It is ideally located for business as well as leisure travellers,” said Mark Simmons, Area Managing Director – Asia, Preferred Hotel Group.

“What makes this hotel unique is the artistic influence on its’ interiors. From the installation art in the lobby (an impressive piece named “Heaven & Chi” that will illuminate the 260 square meter ceiling from dawn to dusk with a changing skyscape of clouds, sun and moon) to the multi media projection at the reception desk, every aspect of the hotel’s interiors will allow guests to experience the fascinating art of China,” Hotel General Manager Mr. Graham Kiy explains.

The 313 rooms and suites of Zendai Art Hotel occupy the first floors of a dedicated hotel tower in the Himalayas Centre complex. 19 multi purpose hospitality suites of 90-100 sqm are ideal for entertaining, meetings and private exhibitions.

Mezzanine One is an innovative dining facility incorporating Italian antipasto, steak house, wine bar, sushi bar and teppanyaki tables in one location. Also featured is the Shanghai Art Restaurant in a stunningly designed venue set to serve Shanghainese specialties.

Hotel facilities, like the fitness club and pool with luxurious sauna and relaxation rooms, cater to the modern comfort and well being of today’s time pressed travellers.

For meetings and events, the hotel features an 864 sqm Grand Ballroom with 12 meter high ceiling and 462 sqm ballroom foyer. There are also six function rooms equipped with the latest audio and visual technology. A landscaped garden of over 5000 square metres with outdoor event space for 300, and adjacent Junior Ballroom as backup, is a stunning setting for wedding or special functions.

“Being a part of the Preferred Hotels and Resorts network recognizes the hotel’s elite status,” said Mr. Kiy. “We will offer a fantastic opportunity for those visiting Shanghai whether for the 2010 World Expo or other business, to experience modern Chinese hospitality.”

Ideally located close to the Lujiazui Financial District in Pudong, directly opposite the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre and with easy reach of Century Park, Zendai Art Hotel is close to both of Shanghai’s airports: Pudong International Airport 23 km away, and Hongqiao Airport, 22 km away. The hotel is only within walking distance from the Maglev station, which offers 7 min transfers directly to the Pudong airport, and direct access to metro line 7 through the basement of the Himalayas Centre, only five-stops away from the World Expo site.

Zendai Art Hotel is opening next summer in time for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and will be one of the Shanghai’s most anticipated deluxe hotels.
