On September 12th, 6 properties of Victoria Hotels & Resorts organized their annual Green Day. This operation involves cleaning tourist spots around the properties in Vietnam and Cambodia, to increase green awareness and encourage environmental friendly behavior. Staff of the hotels was mobilized, as well as local authorities and communities and even some volunteers among in-house guests from the hotels!
At Victoria Chau Doc Hotel, the event gathered 70 hotel staff, 33 pupils from Truong Gia Mo secondary school, 4 journalists and 11 local volunteers. The team picked up trash from the foot the Sam Mountain and worked their way up.
In Can Tho, the 135 attendants split up onto 27 boats to clean the floating garbage along the river located 1 km from Victoria Can Tho Resort, including the river side of Ninh Kieu quay, Xom Chai ferry and Can Tho market. 5m3 or even equivalent of 1.8tons of garbage were collected! The Vice Chairman of Can Tho People’s Committee was present to grace the event, and was impressed by the fruitfulness and organization of the event.
In Phan Thiet, about 500 participants, including staff from Victoria Phan Thiet Resort & Spa and 350 local residents worked together with local authorities of Phú Hai ward to pick up rubbish along the street's pavement and the beach.
In the central coast, 170 employees from Victoria Hoi An Resort & Spa and 10 from Hoi An Eco-tour company combed the beach for garbage as well as along the Thu Bon river and surrounding area.
Up north in the mountains, clean ups were organized in 10 places around Sapa town such as Sapa Lake, Ta Phin village, Ta Van village, Lao Chai village and Silver Waterfall. Over 700 people took part in the operation, including Sapa inhabitants, pupils and teachers from 10 local schools, and staff from the Victoria Sapa Resort & Spa.
In Siem Reap, Cambodia, Victoria Angkor Resort and Spa, cleaned the area surrounding the central park and the embankment alongside the Siem Reap river. The event involved approximately 100 primary and secondary school children and about 100 staff members.
