Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced the appointment of Ken Marshall as its country manager in Nepal.

Based in Kathmandu, Mr Marshall will take over from outgoing manager, Kumar de Silva, to oversee the airline’s operations in Nepal.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways chief commercial officer, said: “Mr Marshall brings extensive experience and expertise to this market, where he will build on the work of his predecessor, Kumar de Silva, who has played a key role in establishing our commercial organisation and office in Nepal. I am very pleased to welcome Ken to this new market and wish him success in growing the operation between Kathmandu and Abu Dhabi.”

During his five-year association with Etihad airways Mr Marshall previously served as sales manager - Pakistan, where he played an important part in the team setting up Etihad’s operations in four key cities and establishing it as one of the leading airlines in Pakistan. He has a wealth of commercial airline experience in senior management positions at British Airways, Emirates and Swiss International Airlines.

Etihad Airways will increase its present four flights a week service to offer daily flights from its Abu Dhabi home base to the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, from January 2010.
