Move over Vancouver’s Wedgewood Hotel; stand aside Hotel Le Germain-Dominion in Quebec City; turns out Canada’s top luxury hotel is one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets – Loden Vancouver, a boutique hotel tucked into Vancouver’s downtown Coal Harbour neighbourhood.

Each year TripAdvisor.com, the world's largest travel community, accumulates millions of travelers’ reviews and awards the cream-of-the-crop with their Travelers’ Choice Awards. The US-based site ranks a ‘top ten’ list of hotels world-wide, based on thousands of online reviews. The reviews on Loden Vancouver were overwhelmingly positive.

Loden Vancouver is a 77-room, four-star boutique hotel on the edge of Coal Harbour, downtown Vancouver's chi-chi condo neighbourhood, which overlooks the harbour and Stanley Park. While its modern design and cultivated service has been getting great reviews since it opened one and a half years ago, few Vancouverites have heard of its name or are aware it exists.

“To be ranked No. 1 luxury hotel in the country is great; and placing No. 2 for our service really makes me proud,” says Loden general manager Michael Love. “Our staff is outstanding and every day we strive to wow our guests.”

Located at 1177 Melville Street, sandwiched midblock between high-rise office buildings and luxury condominiums, many guests say they like the anonymity provided by the low-profile hotel. Its close proximity to the city’s financial district has made its restaurant the Voya Restaurant and Lounge a favourite dining spot for Vancouver’s business community.

Despite its credentials and top rating, luxury at Loden Vancouver is still affordable in 2010. The Loden’s rooms start at $199 a night and top out at the rooftop penthouse, which is sold out at $6000 per night during the Olympics. A week doesn’t go by without a visit by a big name music, film or business celebrity. Actor Hugh Jackman had a three week stay in a Loden suite recently. U2 stayed at the hotel and some band members regularly worked out in its elaborate fitness studio. And during the Olympics there are many scheduled parties planned for sponsors and athletes.

“We’ve had some big parties in the hotel, but when Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals were in town in December, the team’s annual rookie party really rocked the penthouse,” recalled Love. “The team ran up quiet an impressive five-figure catering and bar bill that night. It didn’t surprise me that they lost to the Canucks the next night.”

For the most part, this luxury hotel is Vancouver’s best kept secret. And they have even held some rooms for preferred guests during the Olympics in February.
