Luxury Maldives resort welcomes new executive chef

Diva, a tropical island paradise on one of the Maldives’ largest and most beautiful atolls, is delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Van Remoortel as executive chef. Bringing his Michelin-rated skills to Diva, Steve will oversee guests` culinary experience across the resort’s seven restaurants and six bars.

With outstanding global experience ranging from the Caribbean to Europe and Asia, Steve will add an international flair to the exquisite character of Diva’s fine dining. Raised in a family of restaurateurs, Steve started his impressive culinary career working on Belgium’s vibrant restaurant scene and opened his first brasserie at the early age of 21.

Following a spell as assistant manager and senior sous chef for renowned Mediterranean restaurant Casablanca in Miami, Steve spent three years as executive chef at the Sand Castles resort in Jamaica, where he was named “best chef” of all the Jamaican hotels. Further recognition followed as Steve spent four years as chef de cuisine at Torsk in Belgium, where he achieved a prestigious Michelin star. In 2003 he was executive chef in the opening team of the Ramada Hotel and Suites in London as executive chef, where he masterminded the launch of the restaurant before moving to Thailand in 2005. Following the devastating tsunami, Steve was instrumental in the reopening of four restaurants at The Racha in Phuket and subsequently oversaw 12 dining outlets as executive sous chef at Bangkok’s Dusit Thani Hotel.

Steve then took over as executive chef at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Bangkok, where he spent two years and opened the hotel’s Panorama Restaurant, voted Thailand’s best in its first year of opening. “Diva has an incredible variety of restaurants,” says Chef Steve, “and I strongly believe that, with my unique style and palate of flavours, it has all the right ingredients to appeal to even the most demanding taste buds”. Drawing on a melting pot of international experience, Steve will elevate the culinary experience at Diva, enhancing already exciting and eclectic dining options with his creative, cosmopolitan touch to further strengthen Diva’s position as one of the archipelago’s gastronomic highlights.
