Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects' ARIA Resort & Casino has been selected for a 2010 American Architecture Award. The prestigious design awards program, organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, honors new and cutting edge design for projects designed and built in the United States by American and international architecture firms. A jury selected the winning projects from more than 1,000 entries. CityCenter, the 67-acre Las Vegas development of which ARIA is the centerpiece, is also an award recipient. An exhibition of the winning projects begins Nov. 4 at "The City and the World: Madrid Symposium" before traveling to Athens and Istanbul.

As the tallest structure in CityCenter, ARIA Resort & Casino redefines the Las Vegas skyline. The 3.8 million-square-foot hotel-casino complex is comprised of two curvilinear steel-and-glass towers. Guest rooms and light-filled corridors offer panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip below and the surrounding mountains beyond. The project includes 4,000 guest rooms, a 150,000-square-foot casino, 16 restaurants, 10 bars and lounges, shops, a three-level conference center, two-level spa building, a 215,000-square-foot pool deck, and an 1,800-seat theater for Cirque du Soleil. ARIA also includes works by renowned artists Maya Lin, Jenny Holzer, and Tony Cragg.

Consistent with CityCenter's scale -- it is the world's largest LEED-rated development -- ARIA is the world's largest hotel to achieve a LEED Gold rating. Continuing Pelli Clarke Pelli's innovations in sustainable design, green technologies used in ARIA will result in a 30 percent improvement in energy efficiency and an estimated savings of 31 million gallons of water each year.

Founded in 1977 and led by Cesar Pelli, Fred Clarke, and Rafael Pelli, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects has designed some of the world's most recognizable buildings, including the World Financial Center in New York, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, and the International Finance Centre in Hong Kong. The firm has been honored with critical acclaim and hundreds of design awards, including the American Institute of Architects' Firm Award and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
