Boundary, London, United Kingdom

Don’t know a Rioja from a Riesling? Boundary, Sir Terence Conran’s hotel in Shoreditch, East London, launched ‘Château Boundary’ in May 2010, a free wine club, for beginners, enthusiasts, connoisseurs, or those who simply enjoy vinous treats. Previous events include a 1970 Grand Cru Classé tasting, a vintage 2000 tasting with premium wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy and a Barolo and white truffle evening. The club also has its own Twitter account http://twitter.com/chateauboundary, giving information and tips on all things wine-related, from articles on German wines to the perfect vintage to accompany a grouse. Boundary also offers 12 individually-designed rooms and five suites, a British food store, a bakery, a rooftop terrace and three restaurant and bars. www.designhotels.com/boundary

Alila Diwa Goa, India

From watching a 3D science show to learning how to cook freshly-caught fish, Alila Diwa Goa offers educational experiences for all ages. The hotel is situated just 500 meters from the beach looking out to verdant paddy fields, and so offers the perfect location for exploration and learning. In the hotel’s ‘Culinary journey’ guests can learn from the Chef about how to prepare and cook local dishes such as a ‘Goan Beef Asado’ or discover the origin and use of different spices. For inquisitive minds the local Goa Chitra Ethnography Museum offers an insight into the region’s past. For children, the Science Centre has fun interactive exhibits, and if parents feel like taking a break one of the leisure concierges is happy to accompany them. The resort blends contemporary Goan architecture with luxurious facilities, including an infinity-edge swimming pool and several options for wining and dining, including a Spice Studio restaurant with a walk-in kitchen and cooking school. www.designhotels.com/alila_diwa_goa
