Korean cuisine will take centre stage at Café Kool at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong between 18 and 27 March 2011, when guest chefs Han Hye Young, Jina Yoo and Kil Moon Kyung from the Korean Food Institute of the Sook-Myung Women’s University fly into town to serve up an impressive range of authentic specialties from their native country, all freshly cooked as part of the regular international lunch and dinner buffets.

With nearly two decades of culinary experience, Chef Han Hye Young is a menu development consultant and researcher at the University. Also specialising in food nutrition and balanced diets, she is keen on creating menu items that are not only healthy, but also delicious. “As chefs, we must amplify our skills to prove that eating healthy does not mean precluding an authentic dining experience. Nutritionally balanced Korean food can be as tasty and wonderful as any traditional Korean dishes,” said Chef Han.

The buffet spread is made up of such popular items as White Cabbage Kimchi, Stuffed Cucumber Kimchi, Chinese Cabbage Kimchi, Fried Rice with Kimchi. Other classic choices include Steamed Stingray, Chicken Ginseng Soup, Braised Short Ribs, Grilled Beef Short Ribs, Grilled Short Rib Meat Patties, Stir-Fried Clear Noodles with Vegetables, Mung Bean Jelly Mixed with Vegetables and Beef, Mung Bean Porridge, and Bulgogi.

Guests can look forward to traditional festive Korean desserts, including Rainbow Rice Cake, Half-Moon Rice Cake, Rice Wine Cake and Pan-Fried Sweet Rice Cake with Fillings, which are served on special and happy occasions.

The three guest chefs have also modified a number of traditional Korean dishes with a healthy kick, enabling guests of Café Kool to feast on a healthy and tasty selection of authentic Korean culinary delights.

Regular buffet prices for lunch and dinner apply.

Situated on the mezzanine level of Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong, Café Kool has a warm and upbeat ambience offering buffets of authentic global cuisines prepared live in six open kitchens by an experienced team of culinary artists. An extensive all-day dining à la carte menu is also available. Café Kool opens daily from 6 a.m. to midnight. For reservations and enquiries, please call 2733 8753.
