Boutique hotel brand Hotel Indigo will open its third UK hotel in Glasgow on 18 April 2011.

On Waterloo Street, in the heart of the financial district, the hotel is in a converted Victorian building. It was originally Glasgow’s first power station and once illuminated the Glasgow School of Art. With 95 bedrooms and the Limelight Bar and Grill, Hotel Indigo Glasgow offers guests easy access to the main shopping area, Central Station and numerous bars, restaurants and cafes.

All Hotel Indigo properties have a unique character and feature contemporary design and bold colors, reflecting the location. From the moment guests enter Hotel Indigo Glasgow they will be aware that this is a hotel firmly rooted in the city, with the artwork reflecting the history and architecture of the local area. Artwork includes everything from a mural of famous Glaswegians to paintings of 25 of Glasgow’s greatest heroes created by 25 up-and-coming local artists. Every bedroom and suite is decorated with architectural scenes, with views of the local area, and individual floors feature corridor art showing more of the community story, including the history of the pub scene.

Kirk Kinsell, president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, InterContinental Hotels Group, said: “Hotel Indigo Glasgow offers guests the best of both worlds – the individuality and unique design of a boutique hotel with the reassurance and benefits of a big hotel group. Hotel Indigo Glasgow is right in the heart of Glasgow which means it’s perfectly placed for people who want to explore the sights and sounds of the city.”

Maurice Taylor, La Bonne Auberge restaurateur and founder and chief executive of the Chardon Group which will run the hotel added: “Hotel Indigo Glasgow is a unique, distinctive hotel. The building has retained its original character while the design and artwork inside adds a contemporary twist and reflects the heritage of the city.”

Hotel Indigo is InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) newest hotel brand and offers guests boutique hotel design with the peace of mind they get from staying with a large hotel group. Hotel Indigo Glasgow joins two existing hotels in the UK. Hotel Indigo London Paddington opened in 2009. Hotel Indigo London Tower Hill followed in 2010. Hotel Indigo Liverpool, with 151 bedrooms, is scheduled to open in June 2011.

The Hotel Indigo brand was launched in the United States in 2004. There are 38 Hotel Indigo hotels around the world and 62 in the development pipeline, which will open in the next two to three years.
