• Passion by Martin Berasategui to open at Paradisus Palma Real April 21, 2012
• Fuego Gastro Bar by Martin Berasategui to open at Paradisus Punta Cana April 21, 2012

The Paradisus Resorts, Meliá Hotels International’s luxurious all-inclusive brand, announces the expansion of its partnership with seven-star Michelin Chef Martin Berasategui to its Punta Cana properties. The expansion into the Dominican Republic will introduce two unique concepts by Chef Berasategui-whose eponymous restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, Spain is the recipient of three Michelin stars- to every Paradisus property. April 21 will mark the openings of both Passion by Martin Berasategui at Paradisus Palma Real and Fuego Gastro Bar at Paradisus Punta Cana.

The partnership started with Paradisus Playa del Carmen in Mexico when Passion by Martin Berasategui opened its doors December, 2011. The collaboration is part of the brand’s mission to continue offering guests an uncompromised level of quality and service in every aspect of its all-inclusive experience.

An innovator of Basque cuisine, Chef Berasategui is known for utilizing unique gastronomic techniques and fresh seafood in his cuisine, which is light, extremely imaginative and crafted with masterful technique.

To Paradisus Punta Cana, Chef Berasategui will introduce Fuego Gastro Bar, a restaurant inspired by the sophisticated chef-owned tapas bars in Spain, also known as pintxos in his native San Sebastian. Chef Berasategui’s beloved pintxos will blend the Dominican Republic’s gorgeous local ingredients with flavors inspired by the Mediterranean.

Paradisus Palma Real will open its very own Passion by Martin Berasategui, a concept designed to elevate guest experiences will exceed expectations by showcasing unprecedented flavor profiles to guest’s palates. Passion by Martin Berasategui will be a fine dining restaurant that juxtaposes Chef Berasategui’s philosophy and style with the remarkable local ingredients of the Caribbean. The dishes and tasting menu, where local seafood will play a starring role, will be designed for pairings featuring the resort’s most exquisite wines. Guests will be able to choose pairings from three separate wine lists that have been created exclusively for the restaurant.

“Strengthening our partnership with a chef of such a prestigious caliber further elevates the Paradisus brand and guest experience to an unprecedented level, one that is traditionally not associated with all-inclusive resort properties,” said Bernard Wyss, Area Vice President for Paradisus Resorts. “Chef Berasategui is acting as a consultant for Paradisus' overall F&B program, bringing his best practices to the brand. His presence has impacted the selection of products, training of staff and all of our restaurants’ standard operating procedures. We believe that this partnership reinforces Paradisus’ commitment to providing our guests with an extraordinary food and beverage experience.”

Fuego Gastro Bar and Passion by Martin Berasategui will be gastronomic experiences serving dinner nightly, with a family seating at 6:30pm and an adult-only seating at 8:30pm and 9:30pm, reservations required.
“With these new ventures, my first in the Caribbean, I wanted to create elegant environments incorporating sophisticated Caribbean flavors as complements to my signature style of cuisine and techniques,” said Chef Martin Berasategui. “I am extremely proud to open Fuego Gastro Bar and Passion by Martin Berasategui in the Dominican Republic introducing my cuisine and service standards to such a vibrant country and culture, this is going to be a lot of fun.”

One of the world’s most accomplished chefs, Chef Berasategui started cooking in his teens, helping his mother and aunt in their family-owned eatery in San Sebastian, Spain. Training in France in addition to other unique culinary countries and cultures influenced Chef Berasategui’s polished approach to service and techniques.

Today, Chef Berasategui leads the culinary direction at Lasarte at the Hotel Condes in Barcelona; the MB Restaurant at the Abama Resort in Tenerife; the Santo by Martin Berasategui at the Eme Hotel in Seville; the DOMA at the Silken Gran Domine Hotel in Bilbao and the Martin restaurant in Shanghai. Passion by Martin Berasategui in Playa del Carmen, which opened in December 2011, was his first restaurant in the Americas.

Considered the area’s finest all-inclusive resorts, the two Dominican Republic properties are located approximately twenty minutes from each other on the country’s eastern coast and are situated on two of the world’s most beautiful beaches.

The three Paradisus properties share the distinction of becoming the only all-inclusive hotels in the Americas to boast cuisine by a Michelin-starred chef.
