At the end of May the Steigenberger Parkhotel in Düsseldorf unveiled 35 newly-renovated luxury rooms and suites. They have been designed in a French style by the famous interior designer Bergit Gräfin Douglas. Also new: a Sauna and Fitness area covering 200 m².

The inauguration of the 35 classically elegant rooms marks the end of the major renovation work that has been going on in the Steigenberger Parkhotel on Königsallee since 1999. The new rooms bear the hallmark of Bergit Gräfin Douglas, owner of MM-Design in Frankfurt.

The curtains are made of Toile-de-Jouy, a high quality printed cotton fabric, which combines with the coordinated wall coverings to lend the rooms a certain French charm. Pictures mounted on copper plate show images such as shepherding scenes, images of Pompeii, chinoiserie or the flight of the first hot air balloon, all of which were common themes during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Most of the rooms are furnished in one of three different toiles; in cream and blue, cream and red or cream and black. In the suites, rich wall colours contrast well with the striking bed linen and curtain material, giving the rooms a sense of elegance and opulence.

The furnishings are all top quality French copies of late 18th century Louis XVI style pieces. Their dark wood gives the rooms a warm and cosy feel. Special emphasis was placed on providing generously proportioned bathrooms with walk-in showers, some of which also have free-standing baths. Here, the use of cream limestone helps to set off the black granite.

With the building work finished, all 130 rooms and suites of the Steigenberger Parkhotel now have new bathrooms, elegant interior design and air conditioning. The hotel facilities have also been improved with the addition of a new Sauna and Fitness area called Spa World Comfort, which covers 200 m². Here guests can choose whether to relax in the Finnish sauna or the steam room. The gym also has six top quality fitness apparatus from the company Technogym.
