Legend of The Seas makes maiden call at Muroran (Japan)

Royal Caribbean International’s cruise ship Legend of the Seas called at the port of Muroran in Hokkaido for the first time today with an official ceremony welcoming her arrival. The 70,000 gross registered ton ship arrived in the morning and is on a 9-Night Russia and Hokkaido Cruise which started from Yokohama on September 13 and features multiple calls also at Busan, Vladivostok and Kushiro.
The traditional plaque and key ceremony was held on the ship between Mr Takeshi Aoyama, Mayor of Muroran City, local government officials and Captain Yngvar Knutsen of Legend of the Seas. Mr Isao Iio, Royal Caribbean’s International Representative in Japan said, “We are pleased to feature Muroran as Japan’s newest port for Legend of the Seas’ North Asian cruises from Yokohama. From Muroran, our guests can tour the beautiful city of Sapporo and the famous Lake Toya nearby.”
Muroran is the port city of Sapporo, which is the prefectural capital and premier city of Hokkaido. Sapporo is the largest city on the island of Hokkaido, and is best known for the Sapporo Snow Festival. The city is also home to Sapporo Brewery and the famous white chocolate biscuits ‘White Lovers’ exclusively sold in Hokkaido. Historic landmarks include the Sapporo Clock Tower, the Hokkaido Shrine and the Sapporo TV Tower.
Lake Toya ("Tooya-ko" in Japanese) is a top sightseeing area in Hokkaido, a freshwater caldera lake located about 60 km southwest of Sapporo, formed by volcanic eruption about a hundred thousand years ago. It is nearly circular and about 10 km in diameter with mountains and a hot spring surrounding it. This lake does not freeze in winter.
Legend of the Seas is currently on the second leg of her Yokohama season. For this Yokohama season, there are a total of nine cruises, which is the most ever and more than doubling the previous season. The cruises range from 6 to 9 nights which feature a wide variety of North Asian destinations such as Busan, Jeju, Yeosu, Taipei, Hualien, Shanghai, Kagoshima, Otaru, Aomori and another new port-of-call Kushiro tomorrow, on September 20.
Onboard the 2,074-guest, 11-deck Legend of the Seas, vacationers will get to experience a sophisticated international cruising style with a wide array of entertainment and relaxation choices, such as the signature rock-climbing wall, miniature golf course, indoor pool, spa and duty-free boutiques. One can savour a wide variety of international cuisine in the Romeo and Juliet Dining Room which also offers Japanese selections, watch Broadway-style musicals in the theatre and go for wine-tasting at the Champagne Terrace. There is also a comprehensive language assistance program onboard including having Japanese-speaking crew. Most of all, virtually everything onboard is included in the price.
