The hotel was awarded a ISTUR gold certificate for successfully complying with the standards of the Hoteles Eficientes Sostenibles (Sustainable Efficient Hotels) evaluation model.

On Friday 22 August 2014, Jesús Felipe Gallego, President at ISTUR presented Fernando Gibaja, General Manager at Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa, with the certificate after the property successfully complied with the required criteria. The standards are based on 1600 indicators related to cultural, socio-economic and environmental factors.

Fernando Gibaja, General Manager, said: “Working on sustainability is everyone’s task at Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa and fortunately we have a team of people who strive to improve this every day. We believe in a world where present and future sustainability is everyone’s responsibility.”

Since opening in April 2012 the hotel was also awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED GOLD) certification, an internationally recognised green building certification system. LEED certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy. Building owners and operators work towards a framework and implement practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. Following its efforts to work and operate in a sustainable environment, the hotel is now working to obtain the internationally renowned Green Globe Certification (GGC). This premier worldwide sustainability stamp for the tourism industry is made up of 337 compliance indicators, applied to 41 individual sustainability criteria. The Green Globe Standard is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses and their supply chain partners.
