The stone gates of a onetime monastery in the heart of Prague opened on 12 September to welcome the first guests to the new Mandarin Oriental, Prague. The 99- room hotel is the Group’s first venture into Eastern Europe.

Originally a 14th Century Dominican monastery located in a peaceful yet central part of the historic Malá Strana district on the left bank of the Vltava, the hotel is just steps away from famous landmarks such as the Charles Bridge and St. Nicholas Cathedral. With three buildings centred around a peaceful garden, the hotel’s historical features include vaulted ceilings, Baroque columns, and arched windows. These have been sensitively complemented by natural materials, stylish contemporary furniture and subtle Asian touches, creating a look of elegant opulence that defines Mandarin Oriental hotels.

The Baroque dining room is a fitting showcase for the hotel‘s creative approach to cuisine, while a world class Spa at Mandarin Oriental; developed over two floors on the site of a small Renaissance church, offers the embodiment of serenity.

“In many ways, Mandarin Oriental, Prague exemplifies all the qualities that make this city such a popular destination. It exudes history, dazzles the eye with a mixture of architectural styles, and charms visitors with its unique character. In restoring this historical building, we were under close supervision of the local preservation authorities. Ultimately this collaboration has resulted in the creation of a truly authentic property, where local history and culture are physically present at every step.” said General Manager, Clemens Hoerth.
