On February 3, 5 and 6, more than 700 middle-schoolers will learn about careers in luxury crafts at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris.

True to its mission of promoting luxury crafts, the Comité Colbert has teamed up with the Paris school board and the Musée des Arts décoratifs to act on a Colbert initiative: they are holding three career information days devoted to the luxury crafts and relevant training programs.

At the Musée des Arts décoratifs, students will be take themed tours with artisans from Colbert houses and museum guides. The focus will be on the hand crafts, materials, historical background and career opportunities. Afterwards, the students will visit schools offering appropriate training programs. The goal is to open up new horizons for the young people, inspire career choices and direct them towards jobs that are stable, respected and recognized.

This year, 14 Colbert members and 7 luxury businesses were represented on this occasion. Bonpoint, Chanel and Christian Dior (fashion); Hermès and Louis Vuitton (leather goods); Bernardaud and Sèvres- cité de la céramique (faience and porcelain); Puiforcat (silversmithing); Hôtel Le Bristol, Martell, Champagne Perrier- Jouët and Taillevent (gastronomy and hospitality); Van Cleef & Arpels (jewellery); and Breguet (luxury watches).

Colbert houses applaud 12 young designers at the ENSAAMA school of art and design

On January 22, 2015, students in the Master 2 in Design Strategy course, part of the Chaire Colbert program, presented their final projects to a jury composed of teaching staff and luxury professionals. The following received top honours: Romain Engel and Lola Guisado (the Future N°5 project for Parfums Chanel); Marine Royer and Mellie Sachet (Look up for Christian Dior Couture ; Célestine for Delisle); Isis Marquès and Daisy Rozan (A walk inside the ‘carré’ for Hermès); Clémentine Roche and Sandra Marserou (Sparkling parenthesis for Champagne Krug); Rachel Lucas and Vincent Ferrandez (Invitation au sur-mesure for Mellerio dits Meller); Isis Marquès and Daisy Rozan (Draw me a cake for Pierre Hermé Paris) as well as two teams that tied: Rachel Lucas and Vincent Fernandez (Art de Vivre) and Gizella Battalova and Benoît Malta (VCP Lab) for Champagne Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.

"You're definitely in step with the times," said Laurent Scordino-Mazanec, the new director at ENSAAMA. " I'd like to thank the Colbert luxury houses for offering us such tremendous scope for experimentation and I congratulate the students!"

About The Chaire Colbert

The Chaire Colbert is a program set up in 2011 by the Comité Colbert and the ENSAAMA art and design school. It aims to build bridges between the school and the companies most likely to hire its students via lectures, classes and supervised projects on subjects developed by the Colbert houses in close cooperation with teaching staff. This same approach was used to develop the Master 2 in Design Strategy course. Students are placed in a professional situation, expected to explore ideas with a forward outlook. They learn a great deal about luxury businesses, whereas the Colbert houses get to help train (and, in many cases, go on to hire) promising young designers. A win-win proposition!
