First Adults-Only All-Inclusive Property in the World to Receive this Prestigious Accolade

Miami, October 2, 2006 – Occidental Hotels & Resorts’ flagship all-inclusive property in the Riviera Maya, Royal Hideaway Playacar, will be awarded the American Automobile Association’s (AAA) Five-Diamond Award for lodging, becoming the first all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya to receive this designation. News of the award came in an official letter from AAA’s chairman of Five Diamond committee, Michael Petrone to resort General Manager Jean Agarrista.

“It is with great pride that we accept this award,” said Jean Agarrista, the resort’s general manager. “This is a crowning moment for us. We have had AAA’s Four-Diamond Award for lodging since 2000. Receiving our fifth diamond reaffirms that our efforts to further enhance services and accommodations at Royal Hideaway Playacar continue to be successful.”

Every year nearly 57,000 properties are evaluated by AAA’s 65 full-time Tourism Editors. Less than one-half of one percent of those evaluated earn the Five Diamond distinction. Royal Hideaway Playacar is the first adults-only all-inclusive resort to win this prestigious accolade worldwide.
“Honoring Royal Hideaway Playacar with the five-diamond status confirms that Occidental is at the forefront of this new market and further encourages the expansion of Occidental’s portfolio in the all-inclusive luxury category,” said Gabriel Felip, CEO of Occidental Hotels & Resorts.
Ideally situated on 13 lush acres of Mexico’s Riviera Maya, the resort is the definitive standard for all-inclusive luxury. Dedicated to the most discerning traveler, Royal Hideaway Playacar welcomes guests to experience the finest in luxury accommodations including a private villa concierge, a full service spa, six gourmet ŕ-la-carte restaurants, numerous lounges, unlimited water sports, exciting land activities and tours deep into the Yucatan Peninsula.
