Nearly 150 companies all over Europe had applied, early October, to the progamme looking for tech start-ups « that enhance the travel experience ».
A condition apparently fullfilled by the MagicBox, which enables to manage all connected services inside the hotel room, simply, without any configuration by the customer:
- wifi access point dedicated for each room (excellent coverage of the hotel, secure, user friendly)
- TV and radio over IP
- menu in 31 languages
- Voice over IP (low fares, nomadic phone number, easy conference calls)
- chromecast: to cast one's premium content (e.g. Netflix or beIN Sport) from his/her smartphone on the TV set of one's room, easily, without wire
- wifi speakers: to listen one's music with hifi experience in the hotel room
- multiscreen e-concierge.

Finalists pitched their products and services on the 4th of November, in London, to a judging panel, made up of Osama Hirzalla Vice President Brand Marketing & eCommerce Europe, Marriott International; Guy Kedar, Digital partner, head of social and innovation lead at MEC; Elizabeth Varley, serial entrepreneur and founder of TechHub, the global community for tech entrepreneurs; Will Mercer, Head of Strategy at the Trampery; and Oli Barrett, regular MC and speaker at international events, and advisor to the Centre for Entrepreneurs and NewCo in London. Two winners were selected and their product or service will be subject to a pilot project in a Marriott hotel, in the UK or Germany.
