The first hotel of the RIU Hotels & Resorts company in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, has reopened this weekend after an extensive refurbishment in which the chain invested 23 million dollars. All the communal areas of the hotel have been made over and now offer modern services with a contemporary twist that perfectly complement the colonial-style highlights of the luxury hotel that opened in 2004.

One of the main novelties of this reopening has been the addition of 44 new junior suites with private swimming pool, as well as eight new jacuzzi suites, the most luxurious of the hotel’s rooms as they offer the best views and the most space, as well as a private jacuzzi on the balcony. After these changes, the hotel has a total of 692 rooms to offer. All have kept the elegant hardwood furniture but it has since been upholstered with rich light-coloured fabrics which lift the rooms. All of the bathrooms have been redone and now have new showers.

In terms of the food on offer, Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas has a new Indian restaurant: Bombay. With this novelty, the hotel now has six restaurants where guests can try the best dishes from different cultures: the Mexican San José; the Japanese Misaki; fusion cuisine dining at Krystal; the poolside restaurant El Medano, which turns into the Steakhouse at night and since the refurbishment offers up a new terrace; and the main restaurant with international buffet Mar de Cortés. The list of bars has extended by a further three to make seven: Lounge 24 which is open 24 hours a day, the patisserie and ice-cream parlour Capuchino and the Beach club with its chill-out area. Lastly there are two swim-up bars which have been enlarged much to guest satisfaction, and a second gym has been added next to the beach.

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas has a total of six swimming pools: two with integrated jacuzzis, two with swim-up bars and two for children. With RIU’s 24h All-Inclusive service, guests can enjoy meals, snacks and beverages at any time. The hotel offers free WiFi across all of its facilities, round-the-clock room service, drinks served in the swimming pool, regular mini-bar restocking and alcohol dispensers in the rooms. An entertainment programme for adults and children also includes sports, daily activities and evening shows with live music. Lastly for the ultimate relaxation, guests can enjoy a sauna, jacuzzi or a trip to the gym for no extra cost at Renova Spa, which offers a wide selection of treatments.
