Kempinski Hotels has been awarded the management contract for one of Geneva’s prestigious lakeside hotels.

Kempinski will take over the existing property, previously managed by Hilton, on 1 December 2006. The hotel is currently closed for extensive renovations. All the hotel staff are being maintained and will be involved in preparing for the re-opening of the property. The five star luxury hotel will be renamed as the Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva and is set to open in two stages early in 2007.

The hotel will soft-open with the first 230 fully refurbished rooms at the end of February 2007. The hotel opens in good time to welcome guests attending Geneva’s 77th International Motor Show, which starts on 8 March 2007. The remaining 200 rooms, a Grill restaurant, Brasserie, Lounge and Bar as well as extensive meeting and conference facilities will open by end May 2007. The hotel’s brand-new, duplex Geneva Suite will be one of Geneva’s largest, boasting breathtaking views over the city plus a private spa and gym.

The hotel’s exterior architecture is being designed by tjca Architects with a light and futuristic feel. tjca Architects aim to dissolve the boundaries between the Geneva lakeside and access to the hotel’s lobby and boutique area. The hotel’s interior design will create a contemporary feel for the hotel’s rooms and public areas, playing with textures and natural light.

Kempinski’s President & CEO, Reto Wittwer, said “We are simply delighted. Our guests will now be able to experience Kempinski’s distinctive services in a unique setting in Geneva. This is a particularly important property for us, as Kempinski’s worldwide operations are managed from Geneva.” Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva will be Kempinski’s third hotel in Switzerland, in addition to Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains St. Moritz and Le Mirador Kempinski Lake Geneva.
