Secret Retreats, a collection of more than 100 independently owned boutique hotels, restaurants and cruises, has unveiled 28 new members now available for booking, including customisable cruises in Indonesia, innovative restaurants in Japan, luxury villas on seldom-explored islands and more.

The curated collection of experiences – including Secret Retreats, Secret Villas, Secret Cruises and Secret Tables – helps guide discerning travellers to discover distinctive destinations and experiences that showcase the region’s art, culture, community and cuisine. Each Member is carefully selected based on their unique offering, commitment to the destination and passion for sharing their story with guests.

Secret Retreats’ rare hotels, including the newly-added Ambarella Lodge and Gal Oya Lodge in Sri Lanka, Koh Jum Beach Villas in Koh Jum, Thailand and a special collection of boutique accommodation options throughout China, are intimate properties that big on personality, design and connection to the place. Many are also relatively remote, such as the new members Phu Chaisai in Chiang Rai, Thailand and Soulitude in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India, offering a unique escape for seasoned travellers.

For travellers wanting to make their experience just as much about the journey as the destination, Secret Cruises offerings include a variety of charter and cabin cruises on luxurious, custom built yachts, riverboats and traditional junks. With an emphasis on cruises available throughout Indonesia – including the newly-joined Kudanil Explorer, a 50-metre-long vessel, and the lavish Sequoia Yacht, both voyaging through Raja Ampat – 2018 saw an increase in Thailand-based experiences including the Mekhala Rice Barge river cruise and classic Suwan Macha Junk sailing the Andaman Sea.

Secret Retreats has also seen significant growth in its exclusive Secret Tables collection made up of some of Asia’s most awarded and inventive chefs and restaurants. Focusing on innovative cuisine that combines local techniques and ingredients with world class preparation, plating and service, Secret Tables now boasts more than 25 members with many offering chef’s tasting menu experiences and Michelin-starred service. New members for 2018 include NUSA Indonesian Gastronomy in Jakarta, Indonesia known for showcasing a piece of a different Indonesian region in each dish of its tasting menu, gēn 根 in Penang, Malaysia, featuring a dynamic, young kitchen team pushing the boundaries of new Malaysia cuisine, Restau K Yamauchi from Chef Kenichiro Yamauchi in Japan, serving fine French fare prepared with unique Japanese principles and more.

With the growing collection, Secret Retreats guests can now enjoy unique accommodation and dining pairings discovering a region of Asia entirely through Secret Retreats Members. For example, in Siem Reap Cambodia, guests can stay at the elegant, newly refurbished Heritage Suites Hotel then dine at The Embassy restaurant nearby, a new Secret Tables addition. In Vientiane, Laos, those looking for a stylish stay can opt for Lao Poet Hotel then savour an authentic, local Lao meal at Amphone. The combinations and unique paired experiences can be effortlessly uncovered and organised through the Secret Retreats concierge.

“In just six years, Secret Retreats has grown to encompass over 100 independent yet like-minded Members across 16 countries to better serve and connect the world’s most intrepid and culture-conscious travellers,” said Secret Retreats Managing Director Stéphane Junca. “Each property, cruise or restaurant is an integral member of their respective community and passionate host dedicated to providing not only exceptional hospitality and service, but a unique, personal experience that travellers can’t find anywhere else.”
