The new Alma Resort is getting ready to mark one of the most anticipated occasions on the Vietnamese calendar, ushering in a Mid-Autumn Festival program packed with experiences designed to strengthen family bonds and pay tribute to traditions passed down the generations.
The waterfront resort will host Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations on Saturday October 3 this year, ranging from face painting, lantern decorating and a kite competition, to a beachfront buffet feast, lantern ceremony under the full moon and more.
The program kicks off with “moon bunny” face painting for children at the resort’s Kid’s Club from 10.30am – 11.30am, in a nod to the legend of a rabbit named Tho Trang who is taken to the moon by a fairy. The Kid’s Club will also stage a workshop from 2pm-4pm to teach youngsters how to make and decorate lanterns, as children in the countryside did before the introduction of electricity.
To take advantage of the sea breezes, a kite flying competition for families will be held from 4-5pm on the resort’s grass hill, with spectacular vistas of the ocean.
At Alma’s beachfront restaurant Atlantis, featuring a vast outdoor terrace atop the resort’s strand, a “Moonlight Reunion” night from 6-9.30pm will begin with pre-dinner cocktails made from ginger, lemongrass and other local, seasonal ingredients before the “Full Moon Buffet Dinner” including grilled fresh, local seafood and meat as well as unlimited local beer and wine. During the feast, fire dancers from Boracay in the Philippines will put on a mesmerising show on the sand, adding some international spin to the otherwise Vietnamese celebration.
From 8-8.30pm, children will gather at the resort's green lawn adjacent to Atlantis to light candles in lanterns made at the Kid’s Club that afternoon. As part of the lantern ceremony under the full moon, an MC, the “Moon Princess”, will lead games for children. Plenty of moon cakes, gifts and seasonal fruit will be on offer.
“With the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Vietnamese hope and pray for a more prosperous harvest and year ahead,” said the resort’s general manager Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, who has lived and worked in Vietnam for more than a decade managing some of the country’s most acclaimed resorts. “This year, however, takes on another layer of significance due to COVID-19. The entire Alma family is also wishing for better things for the tourism and hospitality industries in Vietnam and globally for 2021.”
Traditionally signalling the end of the harvest season, the Mid-Autumn Festival, or Tet Trung Thu, is celebrated annually on the 15th day of the 8th month in the East Asian lunar calendar.

Priced at VND 900,000 nett per person, Alma's Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations include the Full Moon Buffet Dinner with unlimited local beer and wine, the evening’s entertainment, and Kid’s Club activities. Children six to 11 years old are VND 450,000 nett each and children aged under six years are free of charge when parents have booked tickets to Alma's Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.
