Guest chef events are a series of culinary evenings in which the chef of Restaurant Sophia, local Marjo Povšnar, hands over the control of the kitchen of the gourmet restaurant to a guest chef for two nights. Guests get to enjoy a unique and unforgettable menu.

This year, guests will get to enjoy themselves with a slightly amended concept: Guest Chef Vilius Ručinskas from Grand Hotel Kempinski Vilnius in Lithuania will cook alongside hotel chef Marjo, and, together, they will prepare the 4-hands concept dinner! The dates of the events are 23 and 24 September 2022 at Restaurant Sophia.

A mix of two fascinating cuisines: on one side, the Istrian cuisine from Slovenia; and on the other, the cuisine of the Baltics from Lithuania. With both cuisines strong in seafood, but with completely different styles of preparation, it certainly looks to be a memorable evening.

While the hotel’s chef Marjo Povšnar is already a constant figure at guest chef events, who is Vilius Ručinskas, and what type of cuisine is he preparing?

Vilius Ručinskas is an executive chef at Grand Hotel Kempinski Vilnius.

A seasoned professional, Vilius has worked at numerous award-winning restaurants and has more than 13 years of experience working at restaurants in Lithuania and abroad, including Michelin-starred restaurants such as The Box Tree and Yorke Arms. A Lithuanian national, Vilius is extremely passionate about local culture and cuisine.

Lithuania is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. It is one of three Baltic states and lies on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Lithuanian cuisine features the products suited to the cool and moist northern climate: barley, potatoes, rye, beets, greens, berries and mushrooms are locally grown, and dairy products are one of its specialities.

Fish dishes are very popular in the coastal region. Since it shares its climate and agricultural practices with Northern Europe, Lithuanian cuisine has some similarities to Scandinavian cuisine. Nevertheless, it has its own distinguishing features, which were formed by a variety of influences during the country’s long and difficult history.

Dinner can be booked through the hotel at restaurant.portoroz@kempinski.com or on +386 5 692 7000.

Ultimate luxury experience will end on 2022-09-24
