Increasingly fluid transition between business travel and holiday stays.

For the "Hotel Design Award 2023", which will be presented at the 196+ forum Milan on Monday, April 17, the twelve-member jury with various professional backgrounds has nominated 13 hotels from among 21 applicants from nine European countries.

The criteria for the award concentrate on the originality of the architectural and design concept, the associated architectural quality of the building and facade, and the design of the interior. The focus is on the design approach and the associated story telling for a convincing hotel concept.

The 13 nominees include six hotels from Germany, three from Austria as well as one hotel each from Croatia, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

Andreas Martin, jury chairman: "The 13 nominated hotels from a total of 6 European countries include 6 classic city hotels in destinations such as Berlin, Munich and Vienna, as well as 7 hotels in holiday destinations such as the Spanish Pyrenees, French-speaking Switzerland and South Tyrol, which cater primarily to holiday guests. All of the nominees have used their design approach to create a link with the location and destination, while at the same time increasingly addressing the fluid transition between business travel and holiday stays, also known as 'bleisure' or 'workation'. It will therefore be a challenge for the interdisciplinary jury to select the finalists.”

Sven Rensinghoff, member of the management board at Bette and sponsor of the "Hotel Design Awards": "This year's nominees offer a colorful mix of classic city and business hotels as well as vacation hotels geared towards vacation 2/3 guests. Here the design concepts take up the local requirements in different ways and thus give an exciting view of the integration of architecture into the environment. At the same time, the concepts impress with their individual interior design, which offers guests a high quality of stay even outside the room. The applications nominees thus certainly also provide impetus for future projects."
